Comments Thread For: Golovkin: Canelo is Champ at 160, Never Faced a Middleweight!

Negotiations are underway for a fall showdown between middleweight champions Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (35-0, 32KOs). The World Boxing Council ordered the boxers to face each other in the fall and discussions between the two sides began a few days ago. They have a very short window to reach a deal, because WBC has set a purse bid date of May 24th in Mexico City.

I hope canelo backs his "honor" talk after Khan fight... this fight better be at 160, if not we know canelo is not a brave mexican warrior.

And to think, Golovkin... He's coming for you in his first fight at 160. How about that?

I hope that's the case... it will make a ton of Pay-per-view revenue & will definitely help boxing.

I really hope so. Then again, why the fcuk did Canelita waste his interim fight on a chinny ww instead of a legit 160 pounder, just to see how it feels to fight someone of similar size? Fighting Khan was a ****** move from ODLH and Alvarez.

Good on GGG for insisting on 160. Don't let that weight draining fraud get away with it.

LMAO..that's a reach considering he walks around heavier than the man he's "going to fight"

If GB & Canelo are smart they use this as their way out of the Golovkin mandatory.

Canelo can use the Andre Ward excuse not to fight Kovalev right away saying that he wants to be a true champion by beating them at the full weight and that in order to do so, he needs time to acclimate to that weight.

Let Golovkin fight Saunders in Aug/Sep and Jacobs in Nov/Dec while Alvarez fights Tureano Johnson and Jorge Heiland (I think Lemieux is too much risk for Canelo).

Imagine that Khan went for Canelo in his first fight at 155. But that's not the same doe.
