Of course, very few get to that level. Canelo is probably just getting to that level now. Ward and GGG together would be big enough for seats to go up in price. Winning establishes a new price point going forward. Now at the bigger price point, maybe its more worth it to a guy like a Cotto.

These are the behind the scenes stuff that again you know. You know that a GGG fight might mean that the lead promoter has to dip into his pocket to cover losses because you can only charge so much at this point. Further, that promoter surely sees the real possibility his name fighter could be devalued (or suffer a career ending KO) once GGG KHTFO!

What promoter would lose both short and long term like that to help GGG get his name bigger? Now if he takes these "bad" deals at least the lead promoter gets more upfront and offsets the possible devaluation.

Its likely why K2 offered BJS so much and why he turned it down. K2 sees long term benefit so they don't mind the hit upfront. Cool. But BJS realizes that once he loses long term he will never get back to that point unless its big name fights (canelo, chavez jr etc.) that he will surely never get.

I asked Eric Gomez and he said he reached out to fans and nobody wants to see that Canelo vs GGG fight LOL

I think Golovkin's shameful duck of Ward will follow him around for the rest of his career. His only way around it would be if a Kovalev-type fighter emerged at 160 and Golovkin was able to get a fight with him, otherwise the hardcore fans will always look at him as a coward that didn't dare to be great.

the problem is that a limited fighter like a BJS could easily lose to a Eubank (or worse) type fighter anyways, so why not take your shot? If someone is going to have a belt around their waist and call themselves a champion, they should not only be willing, but they should be EAGER, to fight any other champ in that division.

Imagine counterweight jumps to heavyweight and claims a title by fighting cruserweight, thats what Canelo does!
As for GGG, he just wants to unify this division and Oscar knows Canelo gets knocked out against GGG after watching Lemiuex fight.
If GGG moves up to 168, he can forget Floyd's fight

Or if Sergio had gone up for a one off vs Froch, major plaudits.
Ward only fought two ppl at Light Heavy weight. And he hasn't even been at that weight for one YEAR. AND BOTH Kovalev and Ward just SIGNED their contract to fight each other.

HBO Meeting: GGG said YES. Ward said NO. Not yet ready.

You call that a shameful duck? Two Divisions apart now, GGG still offered to meet somewhere in the middle, which would have been somewhat fair. Again, Ward declined with ridiculous demands.

Funny how some of you guys shlt on him for this but 154+1 aka CaneloWeight is ok? How many "Champs" demand a catchweight at the lowest possible weight for the class they hold a belt in?

It won't though. It will EASILY do over 650K.

Excellent question. I agree that is what should happen. Again, its the era we are in-star quality is more important than wins. In other eras, you got the most money for the best fights.

So if GGG can get an HBO deal by KOing lower level talent others are going to try and get the same thing. BJS can beat Eubank (who he would have a better chance then GGG) then just keep beating middle tier guys until a Canelo fight emerges or the GGG fight is bigger and he gets more. This was my point to Daddy T-we can't selectively get angry when this kind of stuff happens.

As long as the networks invest more in star building than making great fights this is always going to be the case. There is not a 160-168 lb boxer on earth that would fight an Andre ward over a Dominic Wade (not saying or implying GGG did this) if the purses are abut equal.
