There is a difference between using footwork to put yourself into strategic positions, and straight up running like some fighters. There's no argument that it's effective, but it's extremely boring to some people. Guys like Pep and Sweet Pea were able to use footwork and still be entertaining, but not everyone can pull that off. I laugh at people who make themselves out to be intellectuals because they like a boring fighter or style. You don't have a higher understanding than other people. Boxing is entertainment and people want to have fun when they watch a fight.

Running is an excuse when the guy you want to win loses. It's pretty lame.
There's no right or wrong way to win a boxing match. Embrace the styles and respect the fighter that implements his style more effectively.
The great one's are well rounded and can adjust to all styles. The one's that fall short encounter styles that give them fits.

Pot shoting and running around with no bad intentions but to score is amateur boxing in a nutshell.
Pro boxing is a hurt business. We pay to watch a good scrap. Not hugging and seeing forest gump run 12 rounds.Last edited by Spoon23; 03-18-2016, 09:37 PM.

Running is getting on your bicycle. Running is moving backwards and laterally opposing your opponent and sliding by corners not engaging.
I move laterally offensively all the time. If we look at the ground around you facing your opponent, and your opponent is standing on the 12, I move into 9, 10, 11, 1, 2, 3, all the time offensively and can throw mid stride, even if it misses it usually holds off an attack. You can then pivot or already be mid pivot and continue to throw punches or roll punches if the opponent recovered quickly and began throwing combinations.
Ideally you are always moving, there is no need to sit there unless you are planted and throwing bombs, or planted and slipping and rolling shots inside waiting to counter, weathering the storm. That's why you must be conditioned. If you gas just moving for 3 mins you are out of shape, for a boxer. You need to be able to move, and throw. Your opponent is going to be coming after you, is he is worth a crap, and if he isn't then be decisive and end it swiftly.
You can move forward then take a step to the 7 out of range and force him to reset but you already have the advantage, you can counter there, and pivot in and put him down with a savage shot to the higado, or you can follow up with an uppercut and bully him back with hard shots to the top and bottom taking ground with each throw, staying low and only slipping his return punches.
