Comments Thread For: Wilder: He Was Crafty, I Haven't Faced a Southpaw in 3 Years

NEW YORK - American heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder defended his WBC title for the third time with a devastating ninth round knockout of Polish challenger Artur Szpilka on Saturday night, live on SHOWTIME in front of 12,668 fans at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

And this is a good sign for Fury, who uses his southpaw stance to his advantage. But Fury is also a much larger target, which is a big invitation for Wilder to throw body shots. Wilder should be the aggressor, he can't sit back and wait for counters this time. He has to pressure him.

Wilder fights on determination and will to win, his technique and skills are really subpar for a heavyweight champion, but I still like him for his courage, he needs to step ut up though in his next fight, I expect him to fight that new IBF kid and then fight Fury or Povetkin late this year, I would like to see him fight Povetkin in his next fight tbh but I don't think it will happen that soon.

to be honest I saw signs of mental weakness tonight.

His output dropped massively and he was getting backed up by a much smaller man.

A combination of Szpilka slowing down, and Wilder pulling out a huge right hand won him the fight. If Szpilka had maintained his pace and not walked into a silly shot he'd have outboxed wilder over 12 tonight.

Wilder's easily the most exciting and entertaining heavyweight to watch, no doubt about it. He lacks proper punching technique, but he's athletic as hell. Idk why you're so anti-Wilder. Just be happy that we have a heavyweight champ that can put fighters in the hospital with one punch.

Wilder does some akward risky stuff but I the knockout punch was thrown with pretty good technique..it was a short punch thrown right from the shoulder, no wind-up at all and he followed through nicely. Must be one of the shortest KO punches he's thrown. Have to give him credit for that - the announcers didn't even see it... Most of the crowd didn't see it and Szpilka definitely didn't see it.

                    Because he's a fraud.

The titles should be on the waist of the best fighters on the planet. Wilder is not one of those.

He still hasn't fought any world class opponent and he struggles against average dudes.

Yes he's entertaining but he's got a title and title holders should be fighting the best opponents or AT LEAST their mandatory. When you duck your mandatory and fight three hand picked chumps, i'm not going to like you.

It's the same reason I don't like Kell Brook, he fights **** opponents and claims to be a world champion and he at least fought HIS mandatories.
