peterson was at or around the top of the division. he'd done well in every fight but bradley and matthysse. he did very well against garcia. he is not a bad fighter. bradley and matthysse were very good 140 lbers.

and herrera was ranked highly himself. it seems like he's always in close fights regardless ofhis comp, but that's just because he lacks power compeltely and pucnehs with his arms. he's not a bad fighter. wins over provodnikov. close fight with alvarado. arguably beat garcia. arguably beat benavidez.

it's revisionist history to call danny protected. he's protected now. he was moved into tough fights at one point in his career, and i listed them. makes me think some of you guys haven't been around boxing for long enoguh!
Whilst I agree with your overall argument here, and am probably in the minority in that sense, especially the part about building fighters. There is no way Matthysse definitively "proved" to be a better 140lber than Khan. I think it would be close but I would have Khan's run over Matthysse.

Khan unified the belts for a start (IBF and WBA), whilst the best Matthysse could do was an interim title. Although I agree that doesn't do Matthysse justice he still did not do better than Khan. Matthysse's losses against Judah and Devon were close fights which could have easily been given to Matthysse. But you could say the same about Khan-Peterson. Both guys lost to Garcia but its hard to compare performances as a dominant early Khan got wiped out and Matthysse was competitive early before losing a wide decision.

Khan beat Maidana though which I think is the best win from either guy, that with the fact that he wiped out Judah, shut out Kotelnik, and dominated Malignaggi, is more impressive than Matthysse's performances and accomplishments.

Thurman, Porter, and others would think twice now before picking their next fights after seeing this video. Or we can expect that fights pitting top fighters against each other would be extremely difficult to make. Promoters have to spend astronomical sums just paying these fighters.

UFC is far and away the more entertaining product right now. They are starting to lap boxing in terms of matchmaking.

I will always have a place for boxing, but right now I get more excited for the UFC events because the fights mean more.
Yeah but McGregor has fans. Thurman and Porter have no fans. So they are going to fight in front of a crowd that includes me, Kenny Porter, some PBC fighters and some drunk dudes who got free tickets because the card couldn't sell.

All Angel is saying, why would two fighters with no fans fight each other when they can fight a bum in front of me and the drunk dudes.

The thing is, if you have no fans you either 1. Fight a guy with fans or 2. Take risky fights when you get more fans. That's the problem right now. There aren't enough fans to make these risky fights worthwhile.

What I have to ask is, Why do two exciting fighters like Thurman and Porter have small fanbases? Something is going wrong because I tip my hat to both of them and refuse to miss their fights. So what can we learn from this except they are being mismanaged? Is it the 2 fights per year schedule? Is it PBC not touting the fighters as they should? Is it they have no true home base as far as a network is concerned? Their fighting schedule sucks. They both last fight in June and July. They probably will not fight again until at least March. They have no momentum. Fighters heed a hype machine and that can only truly happen with fighting frequently.

I don't get it man. Terrance Crawford is packing arenas in Omaha so it's gotta be promotion because Thurman and Porter are close to that caliber of fighter.

And that is in the hot welterweight division. If you want to see a really sad state of affairs, look at 154, they have a ton of talent doing nothing. It is like 154 is on hold LOL
