I have to disagree. It makes PERFECT sense, if they're confident GGG ices Jacobs.

The Showtime announcing crew does everything they can to downplay GGG, and elevate anyone with Haymon. Having GGG go on that network, on their dime, and blast out their top middleweight would be epic. Then anyone watching that fight, who has been drinking the fool-aid, would be sure to tune into GGGs next fight, back on HBO.

If Im Pete Nelson, I tell K2 "go ahead, we'll be here when you get back"

Edit: looks like me and Eastcoast were thinking the same thing lol

      Lmao Ikr!

People act like guys like Ward had it hard with all his silverspoon treatment he had, its just odd man

Jacobs has had it hard though, on the plus side If GGG could get a win over Jacobs it would be a much better win than any Ward has had.

There's a lot going on for golovkin. But dont think for a second hbo is letting him fight off network. It aint happening. The sad thing is at Middleweight all the viable options for Golovkin sans Canelo are chinny. I'm still more interested in him moving up and fighting Degale. Now that would be a fight.

Maybe but other divisions are weak too.

HBO should let GGG fight on Showtimes... It's pretty much a guaranteed win, only adding stock to GGG's image... A win over Jackobs makes the Canelo fight bigger too... which will obviously be on HBO.... They let Manny fight on Showtime and he was much bigger than GGG

promoters RARELY pocket any of the tv revenue, and their profit comes from the other revenue streams.

but keep spinning. I figured you werent man enough to admit a simply mistake that probably insiders would know the details of, and you proved me correct.

                Chump.
How does a promoter for the countless Solo Boxeo cards, or Friday Night Fights shows on ESPN2, to ShoBox cards in small halls make any money for themselves without pocketing any of the TV money?

Do you honestly believe that promoters are reveling in being able to pocket $20 per ticket sold to a crowd of 200 people? gtfoh.

Too bad K2 doesn't believe in the same risk-reward you do

most of those shows lose money, or at best break even. Back when I did some ESPN shows, they were only paying $35 grand total for the main, co-main, and 2 swing bouts.

No promoter does those shows to make money. You do them for 2 reasons.

                    1. To get your fighter on national tv. That exposure is well worth the 5 or 10 grand you might lose on the show.

                    2. You're doing a #1 eliminator, or some other fight that has costs not commensurate with the revenue, and if you can get ESPN or Gordon at ShoBox to buy it, you can drastically mitigate what you were going to lose without any tv.

I dont know where you get the silly idea that promoters make money on every event. Typically it costs a promoter somewhere around 100k (or more) to move a fighter from a pro debut to say 20-0. We make investments in fighters, hoping that we have chosen well and the guys we put money in will develop into HBO level fighters where we can make our money back. Nobody on the club level makes any real money, and most lose. There are probably around 5-10 promoters at most in the US that actually turn a profit.

But now that I think about it, why am I even bothering to try and explain it. You already know everything

well in all fairness to K2, depending what their HBO contract language looks like, it might not be up to them......
