Comments Thread For: World Boxing Council To Join IBF With Same Day Weighin?

The World Boxing Council's Medical Advisory Board is recommending two additional weighins that are close to fight night.

Currently the WBC has a 30 day, 7 day and the official weighin. The IBF is the only sanctioning body with a same day weighin, which allows each fighter to weigh no more than 10 pounds above the contracted limit.

Wait, the IBF does same day weigh-ins where you can be no less than 10 pounds the contract weight? Sort of confused here.

Are they talking about the second weigh-in after the weigh-in the day before the fight?

Yeah, you can't rehydrate more than 10 pounds over your division weight limit on fight night.

IMO this is a very good idea..

Also people mention Canelo having to move up, so will Lara he rehydrates around the same weight as Canelo.

A lot of fighters will have to change weight classes if this is 100 percent real...but we all know $$$$ talks

It would be nice to find out who is good at fighting and who is just good at dumping weight and re-hydrating

Wow. Surprised Kovalev wasn't somehow breaking this rule as a unified champion. I thought he was 190 at least on fight night. He came in at 185 on the secondary weigh-in against Hopkins.

I really dig this. Every once in a while the alphabets are capable of doing something positive for the sport. At least that's how this idea seems. Open scoring turned out to be a bad idea, but at least they tried it.

Nice. I expect WBO to follow but WBA probably not.
