There is only VERBAL AGREEMENT that Ward is going to fight Kovalev. He is getting credit for something he is not done yet. In reality he fights Paul Smith and somebody else who is getting rejected by athletic commission as mismatch. Save you accolades for Ward until he actually fights Kovalev.

Oh yea, Ward will be rising up that list by dragging 38 SMW up to 175 so he can give them 3 weeks to drain and pound on them.Ward is a giant turd sack. He is preparing for LHW by fighting SMW. Lol. Wow! Impressive.

      You ****ing hypocrite.
It's true, Ward could have and should have fought a better opponent. But that doesn't give you the right to start making **** up. For instance, why would Brand be drained for the fight when he's actually moving up in weight?

Really, sounds like to be he came back and spent a year and a half dragging SMW up to LHW.

He hasn't signed a contract to fight Crusher, my guess judging by his actions, he won't.
Why does it seem like these days GGG fanatics are really praying Ward doesn't follow through by facing Kovalev? As a boxing fan you should want to see that fight not hope it fails so you can continue to pushing an agenda.

Because Ward for Kovalev is similar to Lara for Golovkin. Unpopular fighter from the lower division. Kovalev would be better served to fight Stevenson and take his title than to fight Ward. Don't get me wrong - I'm not against either fight. GGG-Lara is also the fight I think should be made. But there are better fights for both GGG and Kovalev. Also I suspect that Ward is not serious about fighting Kovalev. If he would be serious, he would fight some high ranked lightheavy to get himself a mandatory position with some of ABC organisations. Paul Smith and Brand are not the fights that steer Ward in the right direction.

I was looking forward to seeing Stevenson face Kovalev as well but we know that fight isn't happening anytime soon. After Pascal, Kovalev only has a few decent options left, the Haymon fighter he fought in the amateurs and Ward.

I thought Ward vs Kovalev was already a done deal, aside from logical preparation, does Ward really need to worry about becoming a mandatory opponent?

If Stevenson is not available due to competing networks, then sure - Ward is a good option I guess. I'm just concerned that they don't have a contract and Kovalev could be wasting time, preparing for Ward. Then the latter will change his mind. I don't trust Andre Ward. If not for mandatory position, he could fight some meaningful fights to raise the profile of his clash with Kovalev. Ward is known to boxing aficionados but outside that he is not popular.

Actually, Lara could do the same if he is serious about fighting Golovkin. Beat some credible opponent at middleweight. Somebody like N'Dam, for instance. I'm just not sure that Lara can actually win such fight.

LHW isn't as popular as the lower weight classes right now so aside from Pascal I don't know who else Ward could fight to help build interest in the Kovalev fight for casual fans.

You have a something of a point regarding Ward's sincerity. To be honest I don't think Ward has the same passion for boxing. I think he'll take a low-mid level opponent before Kovalev, give it all he has for the Kovalev fight, then call it quits win or lose....hopefully I'm wrong.

Lara could beat the Jacobs-Quillin winner and be mandatory for Golovkin's WBA belt.
It goes to purse bids and Haymon wins then they could force GGG to fight off HBO or vacate that belt.
Lara could've done this the whole time Jacobs had that belt. It's an in-house fight for them to make.
He is 1 win away from forcing this fight that the idiots think he wants.
Lara hasn't done any of that. No one knows if he can even fight on HBO. He is still fighting at 154lbs.
He does not want this fight, he is just talking because it's safe to talk.
Seems like Lara always ramps up the GGG talk when he has a fight coming up and needs to generate interest. Funny how that works lol.

Why would he want to go down to 155 for a 160 title fight?

He might plan on fighting Kovalev and he might not. By seeing his requested "tune-up" selection the past 3 years, you cannot deny there is a trend developing. To me it feels like he has this mindset of already paying his dues, and not having to prove himself again. I am being honest here. I feel he wants to take the easy road. Time will tell. If the fight happens I will be happy and shocked. If not, well I was leaning that way anyway.
