Comments Thread For: Team Fonfara: Unlike Chavez Jr., Cleverly is Clever

Nathan Cleverly’s last cup of coffee at light heavyweight had him losing his world title with a fourth-round technical knockout against Sergey Kovalev. But his next opponent won’t be taking Cleverly lightly.

“We know Cleverly can fight,” said Sam Colonna, trainer of light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara, who will face Cleverly on Oct. 16 in Chicago on a Premier Boxing Champions broadcast on Spike TV.

This is a real good fight, not too bothered that neither are on the Kovalev/Stevenson level as they match up well, both are gonna be able to land solidly on each other. I think Cleverley is more likely to outbox Fonfara early, but as it goes on it could become a war of attrition which benefits Fonfara.

Another fight I would've liked more if Cleverly had been more active in the LHW division. Looked so sluggish at CW because he obviously didn't belong there. If he's in old form, I think he'll put up a decent fight in a losing effort... but he only has that one fight with one round at LHW
