-Bute/Di Luisa - stay-busy
-Alvarez/Prieto - kinda meaningful (both undefeated, Alvarez is high in the rankings)
-Santa Cruz/Mares - meaningful
-----------------------------------------------------
38 bouts, and 18 of them were stay-busy/showcase fights imo. I don't have to like or care about every match-up, but that doesn't automatically mean they're insignificant.
The golden key to who's missing in all of this is tha man himself Richard Schaefer. You guys pick and choose what fights to complain about HBO has done the same exact thing for decades a fact yet I guess the ring of a name called Haymon creates a lil hate energy. More fights to come PBC is here to staaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
]No one complained when Canelo fought Kirkland, Cotto fought Geale, Golovkin fought Moneoe, Kovalev fought Mohammedi as soft touches.
Are you nuts? People criticized those fights quite a bit, especially Cotto vs. Geale and Golovkin vs. Monroe. Canelo vs. Kirkland was criticized the least because that was expected to be a fun fight while it lasted. Mohammedi was Kovalev's mandatory unfortunately.
Geale was the best option that GGG could get in the ring with. KIRKLAND however an underdog can **** and outside of Ishida he delivered. Names are drying up at 175 & Mohemmidi was a mandatory.
Meanwhile Mora, coming off a loss to.washed up Brian Vera fights Jacobs. And Paulie fresh off an execution to Porter fights Garcia.
It all could be comparable but Canelo, GGG, and Krusher are established now. When you talk about Jr MW Canelo is top (outside Floyd), GGG is the man @ MW, Krusher is the man at 175. Since Adonis has been a part of PBC who has he fought?
I enjoy the extra fight cards, but don't know why PBC doesn't put out the best matches now in order to gain traction.
Mora lost to Vera in 2012 and another time earlier. He hadn't lost since 2012 though. That wasn't a bad matchup especially for an undercard fight. It was also setting up as a really entertaining fight but unfortunately Mora got hurt. I would like to see Quillin/Jacobs that would be a solid fight for PBC in Brooklyn.
Unfortunately this is true. People keep expecting PBC do be doing something no one else is doing & judging them severely for not doing those things no one else is doing. There are clearly some things PBC can improve on & build up, but I think you could say that about any power broker in the sport & they've been around a hell of a lot longer then 4 months.
Wait til PBC has has 10-11 of the top 20-25 P4P boxers in the sport like HBO does now. And they will. It just gonna take 18-24 months, maybe 24-30 months, instead of the 4 months they've had. Just like HBO can be the highest bidder for name brand, made boxers to get their roster where its at, PBC will be doing the same & as they grow in having more bigger name boxers their impact in making big fights will grow & some of the haters will turn into reasonable minded fans or perhaps even nuthuggers.
apart from DeGale v Dirrell I can't think of a fight that actually had any real world ramifications...possibly Khan v Algieri and Porter v Broner but then that's me just stretching it.

Nice breakdown of PBC's calendar that I'd largely agree with the value of the fight assessment. Now I'd like to see some breakdowns of TR shows & GBP shows on TV & some HBO cards broke down in a similar way & I bet PBC isn't looking as bad as the "DIE MFER!!!!" "HOPE U GO OUTTA BUSINESS" comments suggest they are doing in comparison.
No one complained when Canelo fought Kirkland, Cotto fought Geale, Golovkin fought Moneoe, Kovalev fought Mohammedi as soft touches.
But the moment, a PBC fighter has a soft touch in between a big fight all hell breaks loose.
Garcia had a tough fight with Perterson, and moved up in weight to fight a soft opponent in Malinaggni to get his confidence up. He's likely going to have a tough fight after.
Jacobs had a soft touch in Mora, but is now going to fight Quillin.
Thurman had a soft touch, but is probably going to fight Porter.
They're balancing out big fights with soft ones in between similar to how HBO are showcasing fights. However I don't hear anyone complaining how HBO are doing things. Bias is clear as day.
Kovalev fought Hopkins and Pascal and that guy was a mandatory. Camelot has fought Floyd,Trout,Lara,Angulo.. Then Kirkland who's was like 32-1
GGG fights whoever signs to fight him, can't help if guys like Jacobs and Quillen run scared.
Thurman is coming off a big win over Guerrero, he's building his name , he shouldn't have soft touches at this point anymore.
as much as I like Jacobs story, He hasn't fought anyone since he lost years ago.
They've been talking up a quillen fight for years and neither guy has done anything good in the meantime.
So what's the bias? Maybe you're the bias one?
