Don Haskins Center, El Paso, Texas - Mexican star Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) bounced back with a win, by winning a ten round unanimous decision over his much smaller countryman Marcos Reyes (33-3, 24 KOs) at a catch-weight of 171-pounds. The scores were 97-92, 98-91 and 96-93.
It was Chavez's first bout since the April stoppage loss to light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara.
From the start, it was very evident that Chavez Jr. was much bigger and much stronger than Reyes. Chavez Jr. was doing damage to the head and seemed to hurt Reyes with a big left hook to the body in the second round. Chavez was pressing Reyes against the ropes and unloading with punches.
