Comments Thread For: WBC Anticipates Wilder vs. Povetkin in Early 2016

The World Boxing Council is anticipating that Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) will make the first mandatory defense of his title against Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs) of Russia in the first quarter of 2016.

Negotiations are going to be ordered around the month of October. If the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, a purse bid is likely for November.

Wilder made a voluntary defense last month when he knocked out Eric Molina in nine rounds. Povetkin became the mandatory challenger when he knocked out Mike Perez in one round, on May 22nd.

I thought that you're only allowed one voluntary defence, before you have to face your mandatory. Why is wilder getting two in a row?

I'm looking forward to it. I think Povetkin is the clear #2 heavyweight in the world, so if Wilder can beat him that would be big.

Povetkin cant compete with Wilder from a physical standpoint. Perez hasn't been the same since he put that guy in the hospital. People are over reacting to that win. Perez looked like he just smoked a blunt in the dressing room. Povetkin is going to struggle getting to Wilders chin. I see this fight being a one sided beating.

I guess this means Wilder vs. Arreola in the fall?

It'll be interesting to see the purse bid cause Ryabinsky has the type of money where he could get this fight in Russia if he wanted.

Wilder is not on Povetkin's level. Just a protected tomato can who fit the job description for US heavyweight champion.

It's an insult to Povetkin to even ask him to fight this lanky clumsy oaf who gasses after 2-3 rounds.
