    1 belt eliminates ducking
Well you're looking at what it could be and not what it is right now in reality.

Right now adding more belts isn't going to be less confusing for casuals. It will do the opposite.

If all the other sanctioning bodies suddenly decide to cease to exist for some weird reason then yes, it would be less confusing, but that's not going to happen is it.

This isn't for once in a decade stars like Cotto, Canelo, Pac and Floyd. This is for guys like Thurman, Porter, Garcia, etc. who are decent fighters that are having a difficult time filling venues and becoming mainstream.
For the exception of Porter both of those guys' status have decreased since Haymon started managing them, he protects them too much, Garcia specially. He is getting them airtime, but you can't force people to like fighters, especially when they are not challenging themselves. Garcia's reputation has been driven through the mud since the Herrera fight, a rematch would have served him much better, win or lose you know what he is, most legendary fighters have lost.

Also not sure why most people haven't mentioned it, but does PBC even have weight classes? I see welterweight routinely show up at 150 or 152.

I agree with most of what you said. Haymon has never built a star and every sport needs stars to succeed.

Part of his problem is he over manages them and they get shell shocked when they finally step up. The only way to build a star is to put them all through the gauntlet and see who the last man standing is. Not manufacture megafights through careful matchmaking.

I agree I also think an important part of good matchmaking is keeping fighters within a certain level, what I mean is that every fighter has a number of step up fights but you shouldn't lower the level after a good win. Although he is not the only one guilty of doing this, he has done it the most with prospects in order to protect them which stifles their growth. To be completely honest I am not sure Haymon is the man for the job because of this, he overprotects his draws, to the point they stop becoming draws. Like I said Garcia was coming off an all time high after the Mathysse win, some people were even thinking about a Mayweather fight, but now after Herrera and Salka no one cares half as much. Same thing with Adonis, going from fighter of the year to what he is now. If Haymon adjusts this thing has a chance of taking off(honestly event then it might be rough, people have already gotten first impressions), and the belts would make sense, as of now I think belts are a terrible idea.

Doesn't Haymon get credit for making Floyd a star? Top Rank had Floyd fighting in school gyms and for crappy 100k purchase PPVs.

Putting them through a gauntlet isn't smart because he's not trying to build one star, he's trying to build multiple stars.

I'm almost certain guys like Thurman, Garcia, Spence, and some of the other "better" fighters in Haymon's stable are up for the challenge of being put through a gauntlet, but why make a star of one of them if you can do all 3 over time?

BUt honestly if they really had to, I'd choose Garcia and put him through the gauntlet. He can beat every style they put in with him. And since he's Puerto Rican he can use the inherited fanbase.
