Comments Thread For: Calzaghe: Does Froch Take Golovkin Risk? I Doubt It.

Hall of Famer Joe Calzaghe has his doubts that Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs) will return to the ring for a fight with WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).

There has been some discussion about the two of them colliding, with Golovkin moving up to super middleweight to make the match - but Froch is still unsure of his future. Froch has been inactive since last May's knockout of George Groves before a crowd of 80,000 at Wembley.

Froch has flip-flopped on whether he would face Golovkin. For a few weeks he was very talkative about the fight, but then went silent.

Froch has never even considered this fight he will milk it for as long as he can this is just to give his over inflated ego a boost before he retires. I wish he would just tell the truth and retire so all the casuals would stop going on about him.

For me, I will never forget last May's knockout of Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley.

Calzaghe will always stay sour at the fact that Froch will have a better resume than him.

Exactly! The buildup to that fight & then the epic ending..was amazing. Felt a little bad for Groves though, getting KO'd after all that talking :P

I don't think Froch is afraid of GGG - why should he be? It's more to do with motivation at this time.

GGG is a monster, no doubt, but he needs a tune up at the weight first.

I don't think Golovkin would need any tune up in order to fight at 168... At the amateurs, GGG fought at the Middleweight -- which is 165..................

Fighters are not afraid of each other it's mangers and networks, like Haymon advising Floyd wait till Pacquaio becomes wash up when Pacquaio was knock out its time to make the fight and fool the idiot fans and thats what happened

You're right - although an explosive debut at 168 would spark interest among casual fans, lead to a higher number of attendees at the fight and PPV buys, and make a potential Froch victory legitimate (no arguments about GGG being 'forced' to fight at a higher weight etc).

I don't think Froch is afraid either. I think he is simply cautious about GGG's power and would not like to lose in front of his countrymen. It doesn't look like this fight is going to happen anyways.
