Remember, Golovkin turned pro at age 25 he was already fully grown. When Golovkin was 18 years old he was fighting at 140 pounds. When Cotto was 18-20 years old he was fighting at 140 pounds too. Difference is Cotto turned pro, Golovkin remained an amateur. Golovkin moved up to junior middleweight and then middleweight turning pro at 25. Cotto turned pro at 20-21 at 140 and he ended up moving up as he grew (you know how hard it was for him to cut weight) as well, at age 26 he moved up to 147. That's the same time frame has Golovkin. If GGG turned pro when he was 20 he would have started off at welterweight.
It is relevant because he's quite obviously one of the biggest names in the entire sport of boxing. He's certainly more popular than GGG and that's what GGG would be gaining from that fight - exposure - just like Hopkins got with Oscar so the point is perfectly valid.

His circumstances of ****ty promoting don't matter. As a professional he's been in one division, the end. I don't need this "well he stayed here and did this and did this." Yes and because he did that he's in a position of being a 32 year old fighter begging and pleading for big names. This all comes directly back to his soft-touch match-making and ****ty promoting.
K2 has actually done a really good job with him. He's only been on HBO for a couple years which was right when he signed to K2. In that short amount of time he became one of the bigger names from boxing. Not bad for a guy from Kazakhstan.
His former promoter wasted a lot of his career. Golovkin was chasing Felix Sturm who he was mandatory to, and they both shared the same promoter. They didn't want Sturm to take the risk so they d1cked him around for a long time. Luckily he got out of that mess, signed to K2 and was brought to HBO immediately.
This is all true. You find him beating on bums in the meantime to be acceptable. I don't.

I laugh when people think Golovkin's fans think he can't beat so-and-so.
I think most GGG fans are extremely confident in their guy but we can't do anything about the politics so opposing fans somehow place those politics in our hands as if we can do anything about it. Golovkin wants the champions in the weight class and those guys don't want to fight Golovkin so he's been tearing through the top 10-15.
Then they ask for Golovkin to move up in weight for challenges, he doesn't HAVE to. He can still solidify his legacy as one of the few lineal Middleweight Champions ever. There's been less than 15 fighters in history (I believe) who have belts in at least three weight class who started their careers at least at Light Middleweight.

The onus is on those who have ultimate control (HBO/Haymon). I think the best way to tackle the situation would be to exchange match-ups: GGG fights Jacobs on PBC, while Lemieux faces Quillin on HBO. The other issue would be getting TR/GBP on-board. If every promoter is with it, then we can finally get all of the most sensible match-ups.

He's got to fight someone since Cotto won't.
I was fine with Murray and Geale those were solid fights, but when Cotto put Geale on his ass in the same amount of time on top of GGG saying he let's guys hit him... His stock had to fall and it did. I don't buy that excuse of letting himself get hit on purpose for entertainment and I don't buy the "I can't a fight excuse" while he sits on his hands. It didn't happen with Froch, yet another scenario where GGG can't get a fight which ALWAYS happens to him. Unluckiest man in the world. If he stays at 160 and fights stumblebums again, he'll get **** for it and rightfully deserved.Last edited by Beater_of_ass; 06-17-2015, 04:16 PM.

And like Cotto is he taking his time and waiting for people to come to him. Everytime someone is brought up it's "make an offer." How about GGG make an offer? His team sits and waits for a big fight, while looking for smaller fighters for fame and glory which I understand, that's what all fighthers want. I don't want to hear how hard it is to get a fight while you sit on your hands and wait and the only offers you initiate are to the Willie Monroe's of the world.

People really have no clue about this shit, do they? Haymon is not going to allow his fighters to fight anywhere but PBC or Showtime and he is not going to invite HBO contracted fighters to appear on PBC. It's not difficult to understand. You want to watch Big **** Theory? Well you tune in to CBS and CBS are not about to allow NBC or ABC to have the actors from their number one program appear on an ABC or NBC show to boost their ratings.
