Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter: No Word From Lara and His Team

After his dominating points win over Delvin Rodriguez on Friday night in Chicago, Erislandy Lara and his reps weren't shy about expressing their desire to face WBA middleweight titlist, Gennady Golovkin.

So have they dialed up K2 Promotions?

"No, I haven't heard from his camp," said Tom Loeffler, the Managing Director of K2 Promotions, who has masterfully handled the career of 'GGG' the past few years.

Damm Mayweather, Lara, and Ward talking about GGG. Three black boring fighters. All defence and no action.

I would love to see Lara fight GGG, as it would tell us a great deal about each of them. Let's hope that this fight gets made.

"lara is signed with al haymon so is a matchup even possible" loeffer said yes. Al haymons answer is pretty much the same as wards.

GGG on PBC - if I'm HBO, I'm allowing a one-off fight for GGG to wreck such an overrated fighter, garnering free publicity and free air-time for GGG at PBC's expense.

Lara has no interest in fighting GGG, let's be real.

If HBO wouldn't be willing to step aside for Stevenson-Kovalev, what sense is there in expecting them to step aside for Golovkin-Lara, a fight that delivers far less money while also being a bad style matchup for the star that they're trying to build?

Golovkin is signed to an exclusive deal with HBO, HBO seems committed to putting Golovkin out as often as possible (four times a year, regardless of how ****ty the opposition), and HBO is increasing the amount of resources that they are willing to put behind Golovkin (Golovkin's last fight had total fighter payouts of nearly $2m).

Looking at things honestly, logic would have K2 call Lara's management team and state "We have a date on HBO for September/October and we're willing to pay [X] as the purse for the fight; is that a fight that Lara wants?".

K2 hasn't made that move yet, and will likely not make that move at any point ever; Heiland and Johnson will sign to fight each other, K2 will pick off another non-entity as an opponent, and the Golovkin hype machine will try to sell that fight as some epic test for their wrecking machine, as Golovkin goes on to crush another can.

So then Lara was all talk and no action, well can't say that I'm surprised.
