Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev Drops Johnson Four Times, KO in Seven

UIC Pavilion, Chicago - Rising light heavyweight star Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9KOs) continued his fast track to a title shot with seventh round knockout of of late replacement Alexander Johnson (16-3, 7KOs)

A very cautious start by Johnson, who stayed at a distance and was always moving back. Beterbiev applied the pressure early and was picking his spots while feeling his opponent out.

Beterbiev picked up the pace in the second round, doubling up the activity and letting his hands go. Johnson was mostly on the defensive while weathering the storm.

Did I hear that right? Beterbiev beat Kovalev in the amateurs.

An accomplished performance from Beterbiev, he got the KO but only lost 2 rounds max out of the 7.

Good performance, I only gave Johnson 1 round. Beterbiev looks slow but hits hard af with both hands. War Beterbiev!

I think I read somewhere that he beat Kovalev twice in the amateurs. Could be wrong. Regardless, the guy is a monster. He's very smart too. People talk about taking him into later rounds, but I don't think that's a good strategy for any opponent.

Do you see a future match up between the two?

Once he gets a couple more fights under his belt (after all that's the first time he's ever had to go past 4 rds) Beterbiev-Kovalev would be one helluva fight. They are both smart, skilled and have a lot of power. I for one hope to see it happen late next year or shortly thereafter.

Shlt I hope so. I think they're the top two at LHW and I personally do think both beat Stevenson. There's good money for Beterbiev now though since he's fighting out of Montreal. Pascal, Stevenson. It would be huge if they fight though. Crazy Russian bloodbath.

Yes, but Kovalev said to ask any member of the Russian team - that Kovalev had Beterbiev bent over - that Beterbiev got two wins when in fact he lost - that it was politics and that he, Kovalev really won both fights. So, take it for what you want. Also, that was more than six full years ago as well, and now we need to se them fight as pros. Also, remember that Alexander Johnson was ranked 86th by BoxRec.com coming into tonight's fight.
