Comments Thread For: Algieri's Promoter Impressed With His Improvements

Promoter Joe DeGuardia couldn’t have been more proud of his fighter’s performance against Amir Khan. Chris Algieri was game and tried to take the fight to Amir Khan but ended up on the losing end of a unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday night.

“I thought Chris did a great job,” DeGuardia told krikya360.com “I was very impressed and pleased with how he executed his game plan with his new trainer with John David Jackson. Barclays Center is the perfect place for Algieri. We’re disappointed with the loss and the wide cards but we’re glad we were a part of Spike TV and PBC, and this whole new concept.”

I wasn't impressed. But those loopy shots were effective with Khan. I think someone who comes to fight KOs Algieri or floors him multiple times ala Pacquiao.

DeGuardia should just say to hell with HBO, I'm going with PBC (in the most business professional way possible).

A quick glance at the fighters under Star Boxing would show you that Algieri and "Boo Boo" Andrade(c) are the biggest names there.

At 154, Haymon already has WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather, (soon to be IBF Champion) Jermall Charlo, wba champion Erislandy Lara, Jermell Charlo, "JRock" Julian Williams, and decent cast of gatekeepers under his umbrella. If Andrade can hold off on the money ask for a bit, the PBC platform could make him a star.

And, for Chris Algieri, the fact that he's seemingly proven that he's got enough ability to compete, in addition to being a 147/140 fighter from New York, near the top level, and he just might end up being a draw in New York (he likely doesn't shake out a s being good enough to beat top 15 talents at 147, but he's good enough to pick up another belt at 140 and defeat the field, sans Crawford/Matthyesse/Broner). Work Algieri in as an attraction in New England, and build from there, with Algieri positioned to make a good chunk of money before he leaves the game.

What is HBO really offering Star Boxing?
