The long awaited stateside return of World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko was well-received at the box-office and from the living room couch. The April 25 heavyweight championship bout between Klitschko and unbeaten American contender Bryant Jennings at Madison Square Garden in New York City pulled in an average of 1.6 million viewers over the course of their 12-round contest, peaking at 1.7 million viewers.

The monster rating is the highest for any cable TV fight since 2012. [Click Here To Read More]

The Klitschko-Povetkin and Klitschko-Pulev fights were hardly mentioned in the American media before the fight.

Klitschko-Jennings received somewhat more attention, hence the better ratings.

Theres definitely some hidden obscure demographic in this data. More like the most viewed Cable bout since 2012 by 23-24 year olds with more than 4 televisions in their homes and income between 2300-23,250.

Probably helps that Jennings is American, maybe a bounce from Mayweather-Pacquiao too.

People fell asleep the moment they tuned in to the fight so they never got to change the channel.

Great ratings. people said PBC would hurt HBO but that's not the case. Since PBC HBO has been killing the ratings. The real ones hurt by haymons power move is Showtime. HBO cut ties with Haymon years earlier so him taking his fighters to network TV has no impact. But showtime let Haymon ruin their rep and brand last year with terrible mismatches just to keep Haymon happy and still he stabbed them in the back taking all their fighters off showtime. Showtime has no boxing fights scheduled this year outside Mayweather and the fight with Chavez was a disaster with horrible ratings. HBO remains the king of boxing. Showtime boxing is on life support.
