Misconception that Mayweather is not aggressive.

A lot of people think that Floyd lacks power and can't fight on the front foot as he prefers back-pedalling however if you watch his earlier fights, he used to destroy guya ob the inside as well as the outside range. Even today most recently the Canelo and first Maidana bout, if you stop punching he will mess you up. A selection of "fans" say to beat him you have to copy his coubter punching style but that's not the case because Mayweather will attack if you don't!

Canelo went into the ring with a ginger vag, maidana had him on the ropes most of the fight.

Dude, you can respect Mayweather for what he is...... but not for aggression. He is a safety first fighter (at 147lbs and above anyway). He can take the front foot, but as you alluded to, when it's safe to do so. The last time I saw Mayweather be more aggressive, was against Mosley. He nearly got dropped for his trouble but he did dish out a beating on Mosley after tasting his power, which I respected.

As others will definitely bring up, final rounds against Baldomir and Alvarez (just giving the round away because the fight was won) flies in the face of aggression. He didn't close the show as a naturally aggressive fighter would do. Seeing what nearly happened to Martinez against Chavez Jr and what did happen to Taylor against Froch, when they had the fight won is a lesson in being wreckless, but fans don't care about that stuff. They want the action they paid for.

Mayweather's a great fighter, but trying to convince people he's aggressive is like trying to sell me a coke when I know it's lemonade. Not going to work.

I agree with the poster above. I don't disagree with the idea that he was aggressive in his earlier fights. He was lighter, had faster hands and threw in combinations often. Nowadays though he employs the high guard a lot more and potshots more. But he has still shown glimmers of a mthe old aggression. The Canelo fight showed that he could still walk people down

Like Marvelous said above I wouldn't necessarily put Mayweather up as an aggressive fighter at 147, he isn't that type at that weight. At 130-140 gosh yes but he is very conservative at 147 and above.

Floyd was a good puncher at 130-140. Not a brutal puncher but had good pop combined with his speed and timing, he could def punch.

The jump in sizes and body frames from jr welter to welter is significant. Its like guys who are average around 5''7 to guys who are like 5''10. Or similar heights but far more solid. He didn't carry his power up to hurt guys with that welter body frame.

Mayweather is no longer aggressive, even when his opponent is in trouble.

He could've stopped Marquez, Mosley, Guerrero and possibly Cotto (although he was hurt with only 40 seconds left in the fight) but didn't pull the trigger. He even had Maidana a little hurt two or three times in the second fight and hardly followed up with a punch! He most likely wouldn't have stopped Maidana but it would have been nice for him to try.

Mayweather had more a killer instinct in the lighter weights.

Ricky Hatton. I didn't expect it but it happened and that's how far back you have to go.

Mayweather prefers to control distance rather give opponents opportunities by fighting close.

                    Floyd just isn't aggressive.

He will stand infront of you but it's akways still defensive first, picking shots.

He walked down Mosley, but again he never let his hands go, always picking precise single shots or 1-2s.
