It would actually be one of the most intriguing heavyweight fights of all time if they weren't related and were just two fighters, both 6ft 7 or thereabouts with skills, huge power and two distinctly different styles. We haven't seen anything like it before, and might not for a very long time. So many potential interesting things to see - who would be the stronger man if Wlad tried to clinch Vitali? Could Vitali withstand Wlad's bombs? Would Vitali rough him up and break him down?

Very understandable that they didn't fight, and a noble thing to refuse all the money in the world to uphold a promise made to your mother.

Regarding the brothers giving their opinion on who would win, they both did this...gave credit to one another and saying the other brother is the better fighter and would win. As Vitali had the true 'fighter' mentality, I assume he's the one who truly knows and believes in his heart he would beat Wlad AS A FIGHTER.

No referee or doctor in the world would have allowed Vitali to continue because his eyesight was in serious danger (later confirmed). And Lewis dominated the sixth and last round, wobbling Vitali. As Manny Stewart put it: 'When Lennox hit him with those two tremendous uppercuts I knew the fight was over. Vitali was badly hurt. Lennox would have knocked him out without any doubt in the next two rounds- probably the seventh.' Lewis realised he no longer had the motivation for the game and retired at the age of 38 - a wise decision. Nothing to do with 'ducking'.
Well, we will never know now will we? It's all speculation and both sides can spin it in their own way.

From a purely competition standpoint, this fight needed a 1920's environment so we can see a true winner emerge, instead of a stoppage with the guy in question (vitali) willing to continue while also ahead in the scorecards.

        Me too.

They should've taken Don King's offer and just performed the famous "Finger poke of doom" with the fight ending in the first round.

I would have favored Vitali in such a contest; but you never know when brothers are concerned.

            LOL!!! "Finger people of doom".

Yeah, but their purses would have been held up for sure....brilliant, though.

Seriously, though, there are things more important in life than money.

Good thing the two never fought. I agree with the champ, money is certainly not everything in this world.

              Family matters most.

Second biggest duck of our era? Lennox Lewis when he ducked Vitali Klitschko rematch even though Vitali was battering and basically dominating the fight up to that point 4 rounds to 2 on every scorecard. The ref who stopped that fight was either corrupt or a moron. They can let Chris Algieri fight 11 rounds with his eye completely swelled shut and swelled up the size of a baseball, yet they stop the vitali fight because of a cut that was bad yes, but did not impair his vision and the blood flow seemed to be controlled between rounds for the most part. He could see just fine out of that eye and it was barely even swollen. Shameful that Lewis retired rather than give him the rematch considering the circumstances and the whole world who saw him take a bad beat down with the exception of a couple strong punches he landed of his own which Vitali took very well and were exaggerated tremendously by the pro Lennox crowd.

I was a huge Vitali fan and with that said half of his face was ripped open and that was a good stoppage.

I agree Vitali would have always beaten Wladimir. It's been said many times that Vitali was a born fighter and Wlad was taught to be one. Nothing has changed except Wladimir was present when Vitali was not and compounded an ATG resume/legacy. Head to head, Vitali is the T-rex though.
