Completely disagree. Maidana is dangerous until the final bell, and punches from weird-ass angles whilst throwing equally weird-ass punches at times. He does have his gassed-out slumps during the mid-rounds (much like Sergio Martinez), but he's just there in front of a guy until the very end.

I don't rate Matthysse anywhere near as much, despite his power being more devastating than Maidana's. I've seen Matthysse get very frustrated and disheartened when things aren't going his way (Judah, Garcia), and even downright sloppy (Molina Jr., which nearly cost him). Often he just runs out of ideas and stops throwing anything, which is the worst thing to do against Mayweather.

As such, Mayweather would have a far easier time with the smaller Matthysse. I think he would embarrass him more than Garcia did. All this bearing in mind that I like Matthysse and sorely wanted him to win that fight. Ultimately, I can readily acknowledge that Maidana is better.

Mayweather v Matty could be the worst fight ever if it gets made.

I think Matthysse is too tentative to beat Floyd. Maidana has more caveman in him.

When Matthysse fights a boxer he is too interested in doing things right, waiting for the right opening, or setting up the perfect shot. After the Judah and Alexander fights, people thought that he had changed. He fought more aggressively and seemed determined not to let the judges fuck him over any more.

The Peterson fight appeared to confirm that he was a different fighter. Blowing a good fighter like that out in a few rounds was a big statement. But then in the Garcia fight, it was like Alexander/Judah all over again.

He'd get into scoring position, and then just wait and wait and wait before taking his shot. That just won't do against Floyd, because Floyd is only too happy to let a guy do that. It'll be boring but he'll potshot his way to the finishline while Matthysse has to make do with bodyshots the judges won't give him credit for.

If Lucas was with a trainer like Roach who could show him new ways to initiate his offence and be a little more creative, he'd be a lot better. But he doesn't seem to be interested in changing his training environment, so he's probably going to stay the same as a fighter too.

I don't care how good his defense is Lucas will hit him and if he can hit you he can hurt you. If he can't get Matthysse's respect which I don't think he can hes in a real rough night.
                Sadly we'll never see it.

                  All of this.

And it's not like Matthysse is gunshy or anything - he's just way too patient for a guy possessing that kind of power. Not to say he should be swinging mindlessly like a caveman and wasting punches, but he really should be firing his jabs and straights with more pressure and consistency; have the confidence in his power to break a guy down on his terms rather than waiting around to score a picture-perfect KO on demand.
