Comments Thread For: Saunders Grabs Split Nod, Defeats Chris Eubank Jr.

ExCel Arena, London - In a battle of undefeated contenders for the EBU, British and Commonwealth middleweight titles, Billy Joe Saunders (21-0, 11KOs) picked up a close twelve round split decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr. (18-1, 13KOs). The scores were 115-114 for Saunders, 116-113 for Eubank and 115-113 for Saunders.

Saunders used his boxing and experience to get the edge in the first few rounds, but Eubank started to battle back in the sixth and was landing the harder, better shots in the next few. Saunders started a late rally to started outworking a tired Eubank. Then Eubank got a second gasp of energy and started going for a knockout in the eleventh and continued to go for the big knockout, landing some good shots that Saunders was taking well.

Eubank Jr is off balance 95% of the time. He's garbage. No power, average speed, comes in with his hands down like an amateur.

If Eubank actually learns from this experience and finds a jab and uses his feet properly he could be quite good. This swing and stumble malarkey is rubbish though.

I hope the UK gets some decent fighters soon, I really do

We have a couple, but the way we sell these average domestic level/European level fighters is awful

Saunders was clearly the better boxer.

Eubank looked in better shape but he is still very green. I don't see anything special in his future, his balance is terrible. Loads up on his right hand. Needs to improve his jab.
