Did GGG come to the USA with nothing?

One "poster" remarked that GGG came to america with nothing, to paint a romantic picture of his story and put down another American fighter (Andre Ward).

As far as I know, GGG came to the states with 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, a 90% KO unbeaten record, 2 world title belts and a big promoter.

Does that really equate to "coming with nothing"?

I think that means with no US promotional backing, or network interest. He started training with Sanchez before his promotional situation was resolved, though it was a good bet he'd get solid offers. He had no chance of getting on HBO (where all the MW action was) under Greenburg, it took a change in management for him to get that chance

This right here. Is the "OP" trying to say GGG is spoiled to try and put down another foreign fighter, like used to be the popular thing to do back then?

No. Another poster said he came to the US with nothing to bring down Andre Ward because GGGs popularity has overtaken him.

Clearly, if you´re a world champion, you´re not coming with nothing. Please stop this nonsense.

He had nothing popularity wise. No US based promoter, no network commitment. So in that sense he pretty much started from zero. He had the ability, sure

He didn't come with nothing but conditions weren't in his favor. He had to go a bit above and beyond to bring interest by being a bad dude in the ring.

              What?

Came with nothing is just an expression for came from a poor upbringing/country and still made it.

They didn't literally mean he washed ashore naked with no material belongings or boxing experience.

Never make a thread again please.
