Floyd Mayweather vs Shawn Porter - Who you got?

A number of people (no names mentioned, you know who you are) were saying before the Brook fight that Porter would beat Mayweather. What are the feelings now?

Porter a hypejob, or was Kell Brook just the better man on the night?

    Could Porter still beat Mayweather?

styles make fights. i think brook does better against porter than 37 year old mayweather does.

after seeing the brook fight for porter, you obviously take mayweather. that said, the style of porter is better suited for brook, who was tall and strong enough to handle porter in the clinches.

if maidana has mayweather on the ropes, it's a good bet that porter gets him there too.

i also want to add that i'm allowing brits to enjoy their win. brook is a good fighter, and he pulled off a great win. i'm not going to mention yet that you're all now fans of the andre ward style of boxing, because that MFER brook freaking clinches.

next time ward is out, celebrate him. he does what brook did on a much higher level, and he's a less prolific clincher. brook tied a man up and walked him to the ropes, hoping for a break. ward walks a man to the ropes with the intent to work. there's a difference. i'm not saying that i flag eithe rman for it, i just want to make sure it is recognized.

in time, i'll address it furhter. as i've said, i do want the brits to enjoy their win. they don't get them too often on this level.

Hasn't changed my mind that Porter could be a rough night for Mayweather.

this isn't a conversation worth having even two years ago. i wouldn't have it after teh alvarez fight. after the maidana fight, doe, it's worth talking about.

boxers don't often age steadily, especially when they rely on legs and reflexes. they usually drop off within a year or so, sometimes over night.

That was a one off tbf, Kell is not a fighter who clinches.

Porter bull-rushes with his head down, clinching stopped his mauling if not his headbutts and rabbit punches.

I still think Floyd showed real age last time out and doesn't have the physical strength to do what Brook did or power to buzz him. I'd still go with Mayweather, but at his age and with his lack of power it would be tougher than it was for Brook.

Said it for a long time. Porter is a tough fight for Mayweather. Ugly style matchup for Floyd.

That's almost accurate and and I share this opinion...

Quickly have to giggle at the 'less prolific clincher'. Ward clinches in all his fights. Every single one of them. It's the virgil hunter form of defence. He does it against people who want to box - like Kessler and Froch, who are not inside fighters. Ward clinches them so they can't box. This is the first time Brook has ever clinched.

Porter is coming in head first (like Ward), and runs straight into the chest of Brook - that's where he clinched. And that's a huge difference. I also had a chat with Big Dunn about this same thing. Ward clinches to spoil the boxing and smothers his opponents outside, boxing work. Brook clinched when Porter was running into him.

With regards to Mayweather, aside from punching power, he does everything Brook does better - I do feel the power was a very important aspect of Brook's win as Porter was heavily buzzed at the end of the very first round which 1) made brook realize very quickly he could hurt him and 2) made porter realize very quickly that he could be hurt.

Mayweather is a strong guy too. There's a myth in boxing that Mayweather isn't strong. I saw him hold his own in the pocket vs Cotto and Canelo, guys I'd bet are much stronger than Porter. Mayweather can also clinch when he has to, has a much better defence and is a better mover than Brook is. I think Mayweather would do a better job on Porter for this exact reason.

He's not as square as Brook is, which means when Porter comes leaping in, he has to figure out a way of getting past the shoulder first. It's an entirely different prospect, and one I don't think he would revel in at all.

Porters speed and smothering tactic would give anybody problems. Ring IQ defeated him and I think nobody has more ring IQ than Floyd.

Well, he clinched Porter into submission... That's a start for everything -- Brook would clinch Maidana the same way... There's a blueprint now...
