Yea, he boxes pretty well, but he could be outhustled and lose on points.
He's good defensively, but one thing I think he's been working on (don't know because they're not showing the fights) is he's opening up more and willing to take some to give some.
Against Quillin, I don't know what his gameplan would be. Probably to throw his current plan to the wind and just outbox him. Could work, but he'll leave the decision to the cards

Somebody is lying here because both Martinez and Roach are talking extra **** in this fight..We will see who's telling the truth a 40 yr old fighter that has been dropped 3 times in his last 3 fights or a trainer who pisses blood after having to take those precise body shots from Miguel Cotto? Time will tell..Can't wait

Honestly, I wish Freddie would just shut the fuck up. He just loves hearing himself talk. "One shot and it's over." lol Sure. His other boy, Junior the cruiserweight, couldn't do it with one shot. Nuff said.

Size alone does NOT imply "power." That said, it is conceivable that Cotto can hit harder than Chavez jr.
Roach is being truthful about Sergio's chin. It is NOT granite and Sergio has been floored a few times in his career as has Cotto. This fight just gets more compelling by the hour.
I caution against the notion that Cotto is going to get blown out by Sergio. History has been full of surprises and while Serg is the favorite, I will not count Balls out.

Somebody gotta do the **** talking because we all know Cotto doesn't get down like that. Besides Martinez is smacking up a storm with "I'll make you pay for the KneeBrace Gate" ****... Tonto..

Hey imbecile... you do realize that Cotto is 3" shorter then Martinez right? If Cotto gets left hook happy he is leaving himself open for both counter rights and straight lefts from the southpaw Martinez. Especially since Cotto is going to be punching upwards to try and reach Martinez.

Originally posted by ELPacman View PostUm, considering Roach trains both fighters and has worked with Chavez Jr. in fights prior to Martinez, I think he knows best what the hell he's talking about when he's comparing punching power. If it's true that Cotto is punching harder than Chavez Jr. then it can very well happen that Cotto who is a significantly greater boxer than Chavez Jr. can and will trap Martinez to let his hands go. I think if he lands the type of hook on Martinez that he landed on Rodriguez, it will most certainly hurt him.
Of course Martinez is no Rodriguez, but Rodriguez or not Rodriguez, that type of hook landing on you will hurt you no matter which fighter you are. I think he's just working better and harder with Roach and he's probably corrected the way he throws some of his shots. We'll see who lands first on Saturday.
