So Im having a debate with a poster here and he says as fighters have a high workrate they don't need to work the body to be exciting. Imagine the Gatti-Ward fights with no body punching. Holyfield-Bowe, Frazier against Ali, Hearns-Barkley or any JCC fight with no body punching. Would they have been nearly as exciting? Working the body not only slows the other fighter down its an integral part of opening up head shots. Vote and discuss please.

The description you gave about body punching was spot on, it is an "integral part" of the sport. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to open the head area to be able to land as many shots upstairs. The body is the center of the machine, you break it down and like they say, the head will fall off.
It is the core of your target, the center of it all. Body punching definitely makes the sport more exciting as it provides more dimensions and more ways of attacking and breaking down your opponent.

Without body punching, you'd have the amateurs!
I just mean that scoring blows to the body are hard to get in the ams and we all know how great the judging is there (rolls eyes).
Body punching isn't easy because you leave open a massive target(your head) if you do it incorrectly.
Head hunting gets really boring when that's all fighters do because opponents are prepared for it at the higher levels.
Don't even know why you're having these convos Jab.

Excelent posts from everyone so far.
I do think bodypunches are exciting.
The general public doesnt know how much they hurt either, but i always feel tremendous pain every time i watch a good bodyshot.
I have recieved some good ones from solid pros and its no joke.

I didn't realize anyone owned me in any argument. But since you've seen fit to jump in why don't you tell us why boxing is more exciting without body punching since you voted that way? Myself, I don't need anyone to validate my opinion, Im just curious what other think.
