I always stand for following the rules... If these are the rules, so be it...
I remember that Rodriguez pressed team Ward to accept the $1 million payday.
And then Rodriguez didn't even bother to make weight...
Now all these...
... It's turning into a farce and Ward isn't winning any popularity whatever he chooses to do, other than beating the shit out of this guy...
The 20% penalty wasnt an agreed settlement. That's what the California State Athletic Commision demands. The WBA has their own penalty in place. To those saying that since isnt a WBA title fight any longer that the penalty doesnt apply, the rule was put in place for exactly that reason. Think about it...if the fighter makes weight than there is no penalty because there was no violation. Its only when the fighter, in a WBA sanctioned World championship bout, fails to make weight does he violate the contract. Rodriguez violated both contracts and has the legal obligation to pay the penalty. This isnt about Ward being greedy, that money is now HIS.
Repost so that people can read and absorb your brilliant post, the rules applies here especially when a fighter misses the weight. Am not even going to critise a fighter who has done nothing wrong here. Ward came and made his weight, the person who deserve to be critise if this fight doesn't go ahead is Rodriguez not ward.
The part that irks me the most is that Ward is trying to get an extra 10% out of Edwin because Edwin didn't stand on the scales a 2nd time. What's the point of getting on the scales a 2nd time if you're so drained you can't spit or piss?
Ward is already getting a cut from the 20% the California commission is taking from Edwin and he's getting another cut from the 35% the WBA charges. Incidentally the 35% the WBA charges is split up into 25% goes to the WBA and 10% goes to Ward - but since Ward is fighting for the 45% cut, that would mean that 30% would go to the WBA and 15% goes to Ward. And here Ward is threatening to quit the fight over 5%? Yes, the fact is Edwin came in over and is getting punished justly but Ward is threatening to stop the fight if he doesn't get his measly extra 5%? Tell me that's not being greedy.
DiBella said an agreement was reached. I'd assume it was between the two camps; 20% paycut and max 180 lbs. Surely it makes no sense agreeing on 180 with HBO only.
Still it's Rodríguez who's obviously to blame for this mess and Ward is put in an ackward situation. Had he not been out 14 months, he should have just pulled out like Michael Spinks did before a unification with Eddie Gregory (I think it was).

Ward is trying to get what he deserves. He did what he had to do to make weight, Rodriguez didn't.
