Comments Thread For: Golovkin: Everyone Wants The Sergio Martinez Fight

WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs) is very hungry to face the rule of the 160-pound division, WBC champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) in 2014. Golovkin plans to fight four times next year, looking to match his 2013 schedule. The first fight will take place on February 1 in Monte Carlo. Martinez, recovering from injuries suffered in his April defense against Martin Murray, will return in the first half of 2014 and Miguel Cotto is a possible comeback target.

Unify, clean out, dominate, undispute...if you can. I think he can. GGG can get the middleweight crown back into one collective package since the days of the Executioner.

Barker/IBF title seems much more manageable now that Golovkin is generating more money. I'm sure HBO will be more than willing to drop some notes.
If it goes to Sturm, no chance in hell

Barker is probably going to locked up for awhile, even if he beats Sturm. I think he still has to give Geale a rematch after Sturm, not sure but I think that was in the contract.

GGG you're good but Martinez will fladuck u up in a 12 round decision. Why everyone wants to mess with the 0 taker and then get that ass beat. Martinez will win because he will be on his feet and will frustrate the hell out of GGG. GGG has power, cuts off the ring but he's too slow for the slick Martinez. He'll get pot shotted all night looking for the ko. Speed kills.

Martinez is too scared to fight GGG and the purse wont be enough to lure him.

Hearn's only willing for Major bank last I heard. Sturm wins, it's over.
I don't know about a rematch clause...but I do think Geale's promoter has an option on Barker

The 3 GGG named are the only fighters I'm interested in him fighting next. I don't want him to move up (or down) until he's fought (and beaten) all of those fighters: Martinez, Quillin, Barker.

Quillin fight will probably never happen, politics and all that. plus I think Quillin is just keeping that title warm for Canelo when he moves up.

honestly I think DiBella and K2 are just letting the Martinez vs Golovkin fight build.

I could see GGG smashing though DiBella's stable. Andy Lee and maybe someone like Willie Nelson, if he beats Macklin.

just building the hype for the fight.

Martinez meanwhile comes back, maybe beats Cotto

then you have Martinez GGG late next year. it'll be a huge fight

Recent fights that people screamed weren't going to happened because a fighter was scared that did end up happening:

                    Matthysse-Garcia
                    Rigo-Donaire
                    Trout-Alvarez
                    Macklin-Golovkin
                    Chavez-Martinez

If Martinez defeats Cotto impressively and if Golovkin is indeed fighting Murray next, the stars will align perfectly where the fight has to happen and will. By the second half of 2014, it'll be a marketable PPV fight.
