Comments Thread For: Braehmer-Bellew Purse Bid Set, Braehmer WBA Title Fight

The EBU have called for purse bids for light heavyweight champ Juergen Braehmer´s mandatory defense against Brit Tony Bellew. The bids received by the General Secretariat will be opened October 22 at noon at the EBU office in Rome. Bellew, the WBC's mandatory contender, may also be the next opponent for WBC champ Adonis Stevenson but that fight has yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Sauerland has just announced that Braehmer (41-2, 31KOs) will fight Marcus Oliveira (25-0-1, 20KOs) for the vacant WBA "regular" title - with champion Beibut Shumenov becoming the "regular" champion. Date and site is to be confirmed. [Click Here To Read More]

Gotta be a typo. Also, Shumenov should be the "irregular" champion, since he only fights once a year at best, and always against a patsy.

Oliveria hasn't beaten anyone with a pulse, so I am assuming they are trying to set up Braehmer again with an alphabet belt in hopes he gets into the ring with Shumenov, which would actually be a pretty good fight if either guy were willing to actually fight a competitive opponent for a change.

What aload of bull**** why and how exactly does Shumenov deserve a WBA '' Super title'' ? The guy won his title with a controversial decision to start off with, rarely defends his belt and when he does it is against fringe opposition.

And i see Braehmer is up to his old tricks of attempting to grab a world title without actually fighting anyone credible and when he gets matched up with a legit threat he pulls out or ends up vacating.

I would not bank on a Shumenov Braehmer fight ever happening, the fight was made in early 2011 for the WBA WBO light heavyweight titles in Kazakhstan but very close to the fight Braehmer left Kazakhstan without telling anyone and when they got in contact with him he claimed he was ill so Shumenov was forced to fight a 40 year old William Joppy who was on the undercard as it was at very short notice to keep the card on. Coincidentally 4 months later Braehmer did exactly the same thing to Nathan Cleverly in the UK but was forced to vacate the WBO belt as Clev was the mandatory.

The WBA are in his pocket. It's probably the worst paid for title in boxing, FFS even WBA Super Sturm fought his fringe contenders regularly.

Have you ever heard this fun fact: check the most recent WBA rankings, their #1 rated contender at 175 is some Gayrat Ahmedov lol. This guy has been #1 ranked ever since Shumenov won his title, so almost 4 years. He is promoted by Shumenov and mostly fights bums on his undercards, so rarely.

I was just joshing... they've been having a few minor errors here and there and I like to point them out.

Bellew I'm sure will prefer to fight Stevenson not Braehmer.

Can't see Bellew taking a shot at the EBU title over Stevenson
