Comments Thread For: Carlos Ivan Velasquez Faces Rico Ramos on Sept. 7th

Puerto Rico's undefeated Olympian, Carlos Ivan Velásquez (15-0, 11 KOs), takes a major step up in competition when he challenges former world champion, Rico Ramos (21-3, 11 KOs). The 10-round featherweight bout will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, September 7 on the undercard of Chris Arreola vs. Seth Mitchell, a show promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and televised on Showtime. Velásquez vs. Ramos will be a non-televised bout with the possibility of highlights shown.

Velásquez who represented Puerto Rico in the 2004 Olympics, was an outstanding amateur boxer winning numerous amateur championships. Being the last man to defeat Yuriokis Gamboa, Velásquez feels he has the skills to become a world champion sometime in 2014.

15 fights and he's going to fight a former world champ very much still in his prime? Who the hell is managing these Ricans?

The fight makes you wonder since Ramos has been getting man handled lately

This is at 126, where Ramos is kinda weak. Velasquez is really big and looked really good before the big layoff.

Finally Carlos Ivan Velasquez is back in action! For a while I thought they fell off the face of the earth.. (I say they cause he has a twin brother(Juan Carlos) that also fights) He started fighting pro before Gamboa & for some reason his handlers(some Cubans from Miami) were not keeping them busy enough & it's a shame cause they are really talented.. They were pretty busy in 2007 & 2008, then he fought only twice in 2009 & 10 & then was off for more than a year & came back to fight only once in 2012 & this will be his second fight this year.. Don't know who's managing them now but I hope he'll stays busy & works his way into a title fight...
