On Wednesday afternoon, lightweight prospect/contender Mickey Bey (18-0-1, 9 KO’s) could be seen going some spirited rounds with London’s Ashley Theophane (33-5-1, 10 KO’s) inside of the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bey scored an explosive 3rd round knockout over Robert Rodriguez in early February but saw the fight changed to a no-contest after Bey's pre-fight drug tests came back with high levels of testosterone.

Bey maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal and the Nevada State Athletic Commission ruled to lessen his suspension to three months along with a $1,000 fine after hearing his side of the story, as he had documentation showing that he had advised his physician that he was not allowed to take any kind of performance-enhancing drugs. lets see the numbers, taking into account the total earnings of the fighter's career.

ESPN fights generally split 10 grand for a main event if the fighters are not top billed guys. bey is at or around the level of an ESPN main event or co feature. i can't say for sure what his pay grade is, because it's not regularly published in the media, the way chavez jr's is.

his purses, then, are almost certainly in the thousands, making 1000 in fines a sturdy portion of that purse.


chaevz JR made 3 million for the martinez fight garanteed, according to ESPN. not sure on ppv upside. 900K of that is actually pretty similar in a percentage, if you compare it to bey's purse from an ESPN level fight and the fine he received.

when you consider that chavez has been caught with PED's in the past, i don't think it's too far off, again, looking at the percentages.


you'll think what you want, though. you do nothing (and i mean nothing,) on bscene other than discredit black fighters. i don't know why the hell they let you post on here, to be honest.


my only issue is this:
weed doesn't enhance your performance. steroids can help you kill somebody.


i don't defend what either guy has done, but at least i don't approach the situation with the most poorly disguised racist agenda on the website.
