Comments Thread For: Team Escobedo: Broner Was Too Big, Broke Vicente's Nose
Unbeaten rising star Adrien Broner (24-0, 20KOs) went right through Vicente Escobedo (26-4, 15KOs) in five rounds on Saturday night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
While it was unprofessional of Broner to not make weight. Esco and his team are making too big a deal about it, both were in the mid to late 140's by fight time.. its not like Broner was 10 or 15 pounds over Esco, we've seen far worse.. even a 34 or 35 yo Floyd has been giving up 10-15 pounds recently to Ortiz and Cotto, the best fighter won last night. End of story.
Escobedo is crying now. Pacquiao, Floyd, Dlh, Roy Jones and many others who have moved up in weight were at greater weight disadvantages than Escobedo was against Broner. The difference was way more skill than weight.
You could tell at the end of the round when the bell rang it broke. That's why Broner went to his corner saying he was gonna walk him down. I don't like Bradley but props to Joel Diaz. He didn't even hesitate to get that towel out. He knew his guy had no chance and got paid so why take a beating for no reason. Easy night, easy check. Go home and enjoy the family, well deserved.
yeaaah thats why we have weight classes. (or catch weights) But with a little bit of money to a hungry fighter we get what boxing promises us most of all...NOTHING but politics! Or as Lennox Lewis once said...poli-tricks! Woo woo woo...Broner beat up a little guy....He gets no cred for that one. He could have done that on a punch dummy in the gym eating Twinkies!
broner is a fake floyed. protected cause he will make alot of people rich. he lost to ponce like floyed lost to castillo. just like floyed his recored will be protected for money purposes.
The Racket Squad: Broner:Great Potential, Lousy Sportsman
Fighters should be suspended for a stunt such as the Broner debacle.
Escobedo literally risked his life because the payoff was too good to pass on, especially with a new daughter to care for.
Broner and then HBO placed him in a highly unfair position, personally and professionally.
Vicenete attempted to display all of the sportmanship he could until the end of the post fight interview where he revealed in tears how he actually felt.
'I just came here for a fair fight' he recited in despair.
Yes he did.
Real fans will not forget this travesty.
Last night was a terribly uneven playing field disguised as a prizefight.
Shame on all involved with the exception of an opponent put in a terrible position.

You don't get it, he didn't have to suffer through the same drain in the cutting process. He just quit. That's part of the argument. Personally, I don't care about either guy so I'm not playing sides here. Just being honest that not having to go through that cut can really be a huge advantage.
