There has been the customary NSB nerdrage when this fight was unofficially announced, but the question is why?
Its well noted that he is a virtual unknown, but just because he's unknown doesn't mean he isn't worthy at a shot. So he has a Canelo/JCC like record, it doesn't mean that eventually he can't be given an opportunity. Whether we respect it or not, in the WBO's eyes, he earned a #1 ranking.
We want our champions to fight mandatories, youngin's and bigger challenges. We want them giving other folks an opportunity. Why should they if we are going to lambast them publicly.
JMM isn't fighting Bradley, Kahn, Pacquaio, Cotto, Peterson, or Mayweather because they're all tied up. So instead of waiting, what is wrong with taking a tune up per se against his organization's #1 contender, in the 140 division? At least we'll get to see a fresh face and see JMM work to keep his sharpness up in hopes of landing some bigger fish in the spring/summer/winter months.
If my choice was between Diaz or this guy, I'm choosing 'this guy' because at least its someone new.
Or is everyone just wanting the JMM/Morales fight and their head is cloudy?
He beats up Morales maybe and then he's criticized for beating up a badly faded bloated guy at 140 for a paper title. And note, I too would love to see a JMM/Morales fight because I love 'El Terrible' and would like to see him get that win. But putting this in perspective, as long as this Cuenca guy doesn't pull a Likar Ramos, then I support this fight.
Discuss...you know...as rationale as you guys can.
