Comments Thread For: Michael Oliveira-Acelino Freitas Date Set For 5/19 in Brazil

MIAMI - Team Oliveira has collectively decided to drop undefeated WBC South American middleweight champion Michael "The Brazilian Rocky" Oliveira down one weight class to junior middleweight, starting with his Brazilian mega-fight against four-time world champion Acelino "Popo" Freitas, which is tentatively scheduled for May 19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Freitas must be feeling good in the gym. Once he goes back into the ring he will remeber why he retired in the first place.

even now this will be a huge deal in brazil

popo is a legend and michael oliveira by all reports is a big deal over there

i've seen him fight before. he was in an eight rounder. his opponent thought it was scheduled for six. once he fought out he had two more rounds to go he quit

they sent the round card girl back out there and he started making a scene.

oliveira wasnt horrible to my eyes but he was certainly nothing special either. he landed some nice shots.

Used to love Freitas, but he seemed to have lost the heart for it several years ago. Him coming back at 154 is gonna be sad to see.

              Does It Make Sense?

On one hand this is a terrible fight. A 21 year old prospect, who's fought at light heavy, fighting against a 36 year old ex super featherweight champ who retired BEFORE Oliveira turned pro!

But on the other it makes perfect sense. Brazil's 2nd best boxer of all time coming out of retirement to teach the bigger, younger upstart a lesson.

As long as Freitas puts in a good shift it's a win-win for him. And if Rocky takes care of business against an in shape PoPo he benefits from the bump.

Couldn't have said it better myself.... On another note, don't dot it Popo! You're gonna get hurt and you're gonna hurt your legacy!!!

In what way? his legacy is already made.

that he comes out from retirement after 4-5 years and gets beat by a 21 year old middleweight means pretty much nothing.
