Who had Rios fought to make him the Duran of our time, Acosta, Antillon? Cpmmon guys I have being watching boxing for over 45 years and almost every time the smallest great fighter will beat the bigger but no so great boxer, Gamboa will box around Rios for the entire night and if Rios gets too ****y or frustrate, he could end it up on the mat, Rios is a brawler that catch everything with his face.

Sounds to me like they are ready to feed Gamboa to Rios and capitalize on Rios greater marketability. Rios will knock him out and it will only last the amount of time it takes Rios to study his opponent and realize Gamboa is both hittable, and doesn't pose a threat with his power on the back foot.
If I was Gamboa i'd be looking out of the contract with Top Rank since they seem so eager to feed him to the lions. Instead of allowing him to come into his own at 126-130.
Gamboa's handlers should be looking at Chris John, Caballero, Juanma, Johnny Gonzalez with a major 126 clash against Mikey garcia to establish the absolute king of 126.
If he gets passed Garcia, fight Donaire since Donaire will be only 1 weight division away, then move to 130 should he be successful.
Against Rios it will be a massacre. There is simply too much firepower at 135 for Gamboa.

It was Gamboa who insisted on fighting Rios
not Top Rank forcing on him
be careful of what you wish for. Gamboa seems to think like every other opponent who has fought Rios that he can simply outbox the slow plodding face first brawling style of Bam Bam
then comes gut check time and they all find out this guy is not as easy as people make him out to be

Lot of good posts here....
P4P, there's no question in my mind that Gamboa is better than Rios. I just think that expecting Yuri to climb to lightweight and take on a man significantly bigger and probably stronger is unreasonable. It truly makes me wonder where Gamboa's grasp of reality is, because he really seems to believe in his chances at 135 and even beyond.
Yuri is special, Brandon isn't. However, that doesn't change my opinion that Gamboa will likely be defeated by Rios. I could be wrong, of course; but I'm stating what's probable, not what's possible. Every now and then, you get someone like Pacquiao who defies conventional wisdom. However, guys like that are very rare. That's why they capture the imagination of the general public, because they're truly exceptional. It's extremely difficult to enter that domain. If Gamboa beats Rios, it would be a big step forward in Yuri's quest for boxing superstardom. Time will tell....Last edited by CubanGuyNYC; 11-03-2011, 03:50 PM.
