Comments Thread For: Sauerland: Kessler vs Stieglitz Heads To Early 2012

Team Sauerland regrets to announce that Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs) has sustained a hand injury in practice, forcing him to postpone his hotly-anticipated November 5 clash with WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KOs) to early 2012. The venue will remain Copenhagen´s PARKEN Stadium, and all tickets purchased will remain valid. The new date for the show, which will be co-promoted by Team Sauerland and SES boxing, will be confirmed as soon as possible.

The amount of injuries Kessler has had over the years is like a doctor's dictionary. Loose collarbones, dislocated shoulders, herniated discs, broken hands, knuckle fracture, double vision. Fortunately this looks like it's 'only' a broken finger and not some kind of stress/training related issue.

The hand should rest about a month and then it's full speed again.

    WAR MIKKEL!!!

I'd like to hear Stieglitz' promoter on that one. Do they consider the fight to be only postponed or do they intend to make Stieglitz fight on November the 5th anyway? What are the WBO rules on that matter?

SES has said they are wishing Mikkel the best, and are looking for a new date with Sauerland.

No way they'll jeopardize this giga payday.
