Comments Thread For: Canelo Eyes Mexico For Chavez, De La Hoya in The Way

WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez would like to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at Azteca Stadium in Mexico. There are ongoing talks between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions to stage the fight in early 2012. The promoters are eager to stage the contest in a Las Vegas venue, but Alvarez makes it clear that Mexico is going to be the frontrunner to stage the bout. Alvarez is returning to the ring in December, while Chavez defends his WBC middleweight title against Peter Manfredo Jr. in November.

Make the fight at 158 it seems like a fair weight for both fighters the fight needs to happen in Las Vegas.

Don't really get it...don't they get it that Chavez will be over even 160 fight time, anyways? What's the point of asking for it then? Also, anyone remember if Saul actually comes in at below 160 to the ring? Why not just make it officially a middleweight fight and skip the crap?

but man, if chavez jr can't make the weight, **** it. this fight isn't dying to happen. chavez vs. rubio or martinez and alvarez vs. angulo or martirosyan are twice the fights this would be. both guys should step up in quality and level of opposition in their own respective weight classes. this fight can wait imo.

The Fight should be in Mexico, no if buts or whats!!!

They are both hype jobs, Canelo is better technically wise, Chavez is stronger with a better chin!

Im glad Canelo is telling his promoter what he wants istead of letting his promoter boss him around!

I am sick of this fkn rubbish, messing up our sport.

If you cant handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

They either fight within an existing division, or they dont fight at all.

If the weight disparity is so great that either side is forced to consider changing the structure within a particular division, then the fight is nothing more than an exhibition match anyways.

Boxing is being seriously diluted, and is fast becoming a joke.

Thanks to Manny " padded " Pacquiao and his hoards of ignorant fanboys for making catch-weight fights so common-place and acceptable.
