Comments Thread For: Rico Ramos Knocks Out Akifumi Shimoda, Wins Title

Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey - After falling behind on the cards and allowing himself to be outworked for most of the fight, Rico Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs) came from behind to score a stunning knockout over Akifumi Shimoda (23-3-1, 10 KOs) to capture the WBA super bantamweight title. Shimoda was the better boxer and took the fight to Ramos, who had issues with the champion's awkward style. But in the seventh round, Ramos landed a huge left hand to cripple Shimoda in his tracks.

Reminded me of Devin Alexanders KO win over Urango, tho I think Alexander was winning that fight before he got the KO win. I don't think Ramos is a knockout puncher, thats what I'm saying by this.

I don't know what to make of ramos out of this fight.yes he won the title, but I'm not completly convinced.yes he fought an awkard styled opponent but in a way he landed a punchers chance.he needs to let his hands go,moves around too much to set punches up.

Rico was getting his asss handed to him, but he kept his composure, made adjustments and found an opening for his left hook.

It wasn't just a lucky punch. He executed the same sequence right before the knockout came.

But before he figure out that he could land it behind a jab, that Shimoda kid was diggin' in his asss. He was coming forward, letting his hands go!

I thought Rico was going to lose because until the 7th round he didn't look like he was game. Shimoda was relentless and it seemed as though Ramos was discouraged.

I guess that's why they say that it ain't over until its over.
