When did not training properly become a good excuse?

I hear that on here more than a little bit. Whats really nuts is that somebody will sight it as the problem with poor performance and actually get people to second such an absurd excuse. In actuallity if your favorite fighter doesnt train or take an opponent seriously it should put them on your **** list. Not count as a legitimate reason for looking like ****.

Take the fight last night. Excuses after excuse for Maidana today. It goes on and on with Hamed/Barrera, Tyson/Holyfield, Tyson/Douglas, Jones/Tarver, Litzau/Caballero. Im sure I could dig up more but you get my drift. I just want to know from you is that a good enough excuse? Or better yet why the excuses at all. If any of the fights listed pull your heart strings feel free to cry here.

it doesnt excuse the loss/performance, but it obviously effects your abilities.

kind of like James Toney. the man was constantly out of shape. he would lose to nobodies at his worst like Thadzi and Teberi, but it doesnt change the fact on his best nights he was beating McCallum, Nunn, Jirov and Holyfield.

If you ask me , I view Toney as one of the biggest waists of a career I've ever seen. Thats my whole point. He constantly disrespects the craft coming in looking like his last week of training was at an all you can eat buffet but he gets love like no other from boxing fans. Because he's able to compete on raw talent. What could he have been if he really gave a damn about coming to his fights even half way in shape? Thats when fans should feel the most cheated. Thats my definition of a sumbliminal '**** You'. Thats why I havent been impressed with Toney since the 90's.

No. Posters are making excuses for his showing instead of giving credit where its due. I even heard he was past prime. Like he was ever some boxing genius. I bet you wont hear me make a single excuse for a fighter. Not even my favorites. The only excuse is that the other guy was punching his ass.

it's not a good excuse, but it's an excuse nonetheless

Pull do we agree that any excuse is pretty much a way to discredit. I think Maidana said he would consider a rematch but I dont think he'll sign up for that again.

I think he will if he gets a good payday (like he did for last night's fight).

Because fighters do take fights lightly from time-to-time. There is no excuse really but failing to train properly does affect your performance.

If it's a serious question, or only an excuse to castigate certain RECENT fighters who's fans have used thas as an excuse for a bad performance, I don't know.

For instance nobody can accuse Shane Mosley of not training properly for losing to both Forrest and Wright when he was much better than he is today. Yet is seems common to accuse recent fighters, expected to win, of not training when they lost.

When Mike Tyson lost to Douglas he DEFINITELY trained but in nightclubs and with **********s. Only in a gym about a week before the fight.

The classic example of not training is that of Max Baer,in about 1935, for his fight with Braddock, which he should have won "at a walk". he did his training regularly in night clubs, and this time he lost badly.

Of course Harry Greb trained the same way and nearly always won. I remember when a kid reading about how he would have *** just before a fight, dress himself and then off to the Arena to win. He had hundreds of fights.

A perfect example of being human in one way, and inhuman in another.
