No announcement yet.
No knock on Donaire but his success is mostly attributed to his size

Montiel weighed in bigger than Donaire. Add to the fact that.. Nonito was hunching over (which pretty much negated the height advantage) while picking his shots and counters .. and Montiel has a longer reach..Last edited by | THE KING |; 02-20-2011, 08:07 PM.

weight class, weight class, weight class, not height class.
chico corrales was a 5'10, damn near a 6 footer who fought at 130 and 135, but the thing was, having met him a few times between camps he wasn't walking around over 147, at least when i met him.
he wasn't a big framed guy, he wasn't a muscular behemoth, he was a tall skinny guy that cold make that weight. and although it was starting to kill him to make weight, only then did he move up to where he felt he had a chance.
people bodies are all different, some smaller dudes have thicker muscles which makes them heavier, same with bones, some guy can eat ANYTHING and never gain weight, the point im making, what is right for someones body isnt' right for someone else.
donaire, from what i see, isnt a guy that is killing himself to make weight, i don't think he's dropping more than 25-30+lbs to make weight, and he doesn't spend the majority of his training camp focusing on his weight, which ALL FIGHTERS who drop serious weight do! ie hatton, trinidad, dlh, guzman, etc, etc.
bottom line is this, weight is what important, as well as MANY other aspects of fighting, height, reach, stance, etc. are all of you going to complain, who's complaining, about that mess too?
montiel has fought other guys that were taller than he, he's also fought guys that were smaller than he, and he's guys that weighed more than him, what is the difference here? just because he got beat in stunning fashion??? or because he was supposed to expose donaire?
no two fighters size up the same, and when they do, there are other disparities between them that we don't see until they come to the surface, ie mental aspects of the sport..............
your mind is like a parachute, it works better open...............

People can't deny that, and don't get offended and say I'm tryin' to bash him because I'm not. I never had a problem with P.Will, Caballero or Margarito facing smaller opponents, so why would I have a problem with Donaire doing it? I like Donaire too.
It's obvious though because we've all seen constant threads of Donaire vs. Juanma or Gamboa, even Max brought this to Donaire's attention; on Donaire possibly moving up to FW, so we all know what people are seeing here. Montiel was still a great win and I'm not discrediting his win at all. Just that some like to deny that Donaire's size hasn't played a role.
did you see that punch that knocked out montiel? do you think if they were exactly of the same height and reach, the result would have been different?
and is one or two inches difference really that a factor? margarito had a 6 inches in height and four inches in reach advantage over pac yet we all know what happened there.
Pwill was bigger than Martinez and yet he lost as well.

stop commenting because you are only adding to fuel to the fire. you are doing a huge self owning mate, showing how dumb you are....

Great.. What a dumb thread.. Donaire is tall but to say he wins because he looks physically bigger is ******.. It's all about skill..
118 lb division is deep right now and I think he has more than enough to beat the other top guys in Mares, Agbeko, and Perez..
Also, for the haters who want him to fight Juanma or any other FWs right now, check out this pic:
I'm sure you guys (especially PRBOXINGCOTTO) are looking ****** right now..

its funny by reading some of these comments its shows who knows boxing and who doesnt, anybody saying Donare was the same size of Montiel dont know **** about boxing there is a reason Roy Jones Jr WAS SAYING SIZE WILL PLAY A FACTOR IN THIS FIGHT and he was talking about DONARE. he knows what eveybody knows who has train in a boxing gym that Donare knows how to go down in weight and keep alot of his natural strength i my selfe never gave Montiel a chance in hell this a good example of a good little fighter will always lose to a good big fighter. The first time i saw Donare 2 years ago fight i was man this guy is huge for these weight classes
