it's good for boxing, but financially bad for HBO to take a stand on principle...

I'm glad pac/mosley and cotto/mayorga are going to showtime. both fights imho aren't great.

however, cotto/mayorga is gonna kill martinez/dzinziruk in ratings and pac/mosley is gonna do better numbers than the clottey fight but less numbers than the margarito fight.

great decision for boxing fans as it lets boxers know they can't just fight mismatches and expect to get paid; bad decision for HBO's bank account.

HBO isn't taking a stand against anything.

It's a boxing network being run by penny pinching ***s who don't know anything about the sport.

It's a damn good sign that Showtime is taking these fights away because they have boxing people who are willing to take financial risks to give the fans good fights. Hopefully they will steal Martinez away next.

Is it HBO that doesn't want the fights? I thought Arum was pissed and took his business else where?

I doubt HBO rejected the fights on principle. Bob Arum probably got a good deal with CBS and Showtime, with CBS being a basic TV channel and promoting the Pacquiao-Mosley fight.

Plus with HBO being known as so GBP friendly, maybe that played a role in Arum hoping to take his fights elsewhere.

Where did the thread starter got this idea that it was HBO who rejected this fight out of principle? Even if it was Pacquiao against a punching bag or a corpse, they'll gladly take it with a collective smile on their faces. It was Bob Arum who took his show elsewhere because he's feeling like a scorned woman right now (and probably got a better offer from Showtime/CBS too) when HBO "awarded" an alleged date to Maravilla instead of giving it to Cotto, who's been a consistent moneymaker for them for years, and as loyal as they come...

this... hbo would take pacquiao-mosley in a heart beat.

they are not standing up for any principle.

This is great for the potential Mayweather-Pacquiao fight!! Pac keeps building himself up, all so Mayweather can knock him down!
