    Emannuel Steward is a joke;

I was watching the telecasts of Williams-Martinez 1 and 2, Martinez-Pavlik, and Pacquiao-Margarito last night, and I've gotta say, Manny Steward just doesn't have the legs anymore, and I don't think he's that great of a trainer strategy wise.

He says the most ******ed ****, like that "Martinez isn't as street-tough as Willaims is", and "moving away from Pavlik's right hand isn't that important", and "I know I keep saying size, size, size but I think it's gonna be a real factor".....he's wrong way too much, is my point.

I want to think Steward's knowledge of the game goes far beyond what any of us can say or claim.

Does he get it wrong from time to time? Yea, just like everyone else has from time to time. But I still believe he's still one of Boxing's great trainers. As much as I like Merchant, I'd look at him being a little over the cukoo's nest than Steward.

      But to each his own...

i agree, he's been in serious decline for a hot minute.

when i saw him after the calzaghe-hopkins fight, how he was extremely drunk right after the fight, and i mean right after the fight, it made me wonder if he was already tanked before the telecast or getting ripped during the telecast. either way, i saw him hanging out with all the brits at planet hollywood acting like a 16 year old girl on her first drunk. although i saw him with some hottie chicks, who i know weren't his wife, daughters, or nieces, i thought, this mofo probably wasn't even paying attention to the fight because how in the hell did he get so ripped so quick after the fight???

there is only two conclusions i can think of, 1) he was already celebrating before the fight even started and was drunk during the telecast, 2) he was getting ripped during......

either way, you can tell where his focus was by seeing who he was buddying up with after the fight......

but back to the topic, i think that he has declined and has been living on a celebrity type status, living off his old accomplishments. i've seen nothing new or nothing even exciting come from steward or his stable of fighters.

he was hyping up lee for so damn long, when that went bust on espn, i said, forget it, he's just trying to make a quick buck on cultivating a star by his popular status.

i will not and do not deny his previous work, he is a hall of fame trainer, but those days are way past and he hasnt' produced anything near the same.

guys like lewis and wlad have the prefect physicality for steward and his game plan training style. you couple that with hard work and talent, and you're going to have a world champion.

but where has it been in recent years of him taking guys to the next level? or reviving a fighters career?

personally i think he's the kiss of death for most fighters...........

Manny Steward is MUCH better than Teddy Atlas, both as a commentator/analyst and as a boxing trainer.

Wins as trainer in world title fights:

            Manny Steward: 53
            Teddy Atlas: 1

Steward has bad moments, but that is when IMO he hasn't done his homework.

When he does do it, he's one of the ebst and sees things and talks about it that others do not.

Steward is a great trainer, but I do feel he had success with Lewis and Wlad because they are big guys with skill. If it was the same size and weight, then that advantage would disapear.

Taylor etc.. were OK. He didn;t do much for Prince Naz, and has had some bums under him for sure.

But again, a great trainer and he does see things we don't.

i hate how manny always says something is happening, then when the total opposite happens he says its going exactly the way he said it was

Really? I love it. He's shameless. "You know, this happened exactly how I thought it would..."

But really, to call him a joke is out of line. He's a legendary trainer who's trained more champions than I've taken ****s. He might be too self-congratulating, but he's forgotten more about boxing than I'll ever know about anything.

He's just not a good commentator. Doesn't mean his knowledge of the sport is any less or more. He has a few phrases he uses over and over. "Putting more pressure on him than anyone else ever has."

He says that in every fight. Sometimes it's true. Sometimes it sounds like he's reading off of a script. And there are times when the fighters defy his logic. That's bound to happen from time to time.
