For every Roy hater, there's a thousand fans. Don't get so worked up over it. Every star athlete in every sport has to deal with the same ****.
Not Robinson, Pepp, Conn, Louis, Fitzsimmons, Grebb, Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, etc.

They fought the best...Roy does not deserve to be in that group

Jones' win over Hopkins wasn't considered a good win until eight years later.

            From an article in 2002..

For the past two and half years, I have criticized Jones' light heavyweight competition and every time I do this, diehard fans of the three-division champion have emailed me to let me know that I "musta forgot".

They said I "musta forgot" that Jones was peerless as a middleweight.

I told them, I remembered Jones beating a very raw and unknown Bernard Hopkins for the vacant IBF title and then only defending that belt once (one full year after winning it). That's all I could recall Jones accomplishing at 160 pounds. (I couldn't seem to remember if he ever fought Julian Jackson, Quincy Taylor, Lamar Parks, John David Jackson, Steve Collins, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank or Gerald McClellan.)

They said I "musta forgot" that Jones won the 168-pound title by schooling pound-for-pound man James Toney over 12 one-sided rounds.

I told them I vaguely remembered a bloated, water-logged Toney stepping through those ropes in '94, but I clearly recalled Jones dominating "world beaters" Antoine Byrd, Vinny Paz, Bryant Bannon and the "Punching Postman" Tony Thorton.

They said I "musta forgot" that Jones unified the light heavyweight titles.

I told them I remembered that Jones won the "interim" WBC belt from 40-something Mike McCallum and then was magically "awarded" the "world" title that Graciano Rocchigiani supposedly won from Michael Nunn. I told them I also recalled that Jones picked up the WBA belt from Lou Del Valle, who won the vacant title from some dude named Eddy Smulders. Then Jones won the IBF title from Reggie Johnson, who won it from William "Big Chocolate" Guthrie, who won the vacant belt from some guy named Darin Allen. I told them I "musta forgot" the lineage of his belts beyond those fights.

They told me that I'm just a hater and that I "musta forgot" that Jones was named the 'Fighter of the Decade (1990s)" by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

I told them I thought that Pernell Whitaker or Evander Holyfield were more deserving

            Lol.

What is Hopkins career defining win? Was it the win over the blown up welter Trinidad or the blown up Welter De La Hoya who I believe layed down in that fight. I do however respect Hopkins for making so many defences.

People are too overly critical of Roy Jones. Is he a great? Yes. Will he be remembered as great? Yes. Despite excuses people make for why he beat Hopkins, or why he beat Toney... he still clearly beat them. He still is 49-3 with 2 of those losses comming in his last 2 fights. Judge him all you want but to suggest that he's a disgrace is laughable. He'll be remembered as better than Benn, Eubank, or Dariusz despite the fact that some people don't like him.
