Why all the glory for winky wright. I dont understand why winky is in P4P on peoples lists.... Who has he fought. He has had a monatonous career with B fighters.. HE lost against Vargas. When Tito was mudering everyone, he didnt get a fight. When DeLaHoya was at a prime fighter, he didnt get a fight.He didnt jump in at the Middleweight tourney( JOPPY,Trinidad,Hopkins). Who has he fought. A too small, exhasted mosely, an already retired Trinidad. who else has he fought. To be the best you have to TAKE, not sit back and wonder why you get no P.P.V. money and fight. Should have called everyone out when they were good. Now you let the dust settle and want to be a badass, nice try winky..

I am not a fan of Winky by any stretch, but the man was ducked by DLH and Tito when they were moving through 154, but the reasons why centered on money moreso than fear of loss. Tito in 1999-2000 would have handled Winky IMO, and DLH would have been a great fight one way or the other.
Winky didn't enter the middleweight tournament mostly because he was a 154 guy through and through, and the 4 spots for that tournament were set for the middleweight champs (Hopkins, Joppy, Holmes) and the star (Tito).
Winky is a great fighter, and alot of people do think he beat Vargas, but now he's on top of his game and no one wants to fight him. The only attractive fight (other than the PBF fight) was Ouma until he got his ass kicked by Karmazin.
Now what? Reportedly Dec. 10 he'll fight, which means no Hopkins, and Vargas and Mayorga are tied together if they win this month. Who the hell will fight him? Probably someone who has no business in the ring with him. I'd love to see Wright-Spinks at 154 (from a PURISTS' PURIST standpoint of course)...
If he fights at middleweight, maybe Ikeke or Soliman, but unlikely... -
Fighters can always say they were ducked. I winky was on top they would have no choice but to fight. My point is i have no sympathy for winky. He was not ducked, he was not the best challenger in that division to warrant a top fight. He seemed to slip under everyones radar after the Vargas loss, and now that the dust has settled he jumps up and says how everyone ducked him.. I give him that he is not the most exciting fighter to watch, and thats part of the reason why people have never paid to see him fight. AS far as Spinks, i think he is a terrible fighter, Judah proved that one.Comment

Yes, Winky's best hope is to be mandatory for multiple belts, and then the Hops-Taylor winner (if Hopkins will fight again) will have to fight him or lose undisputed status.
Hopkins did say he would fight Winky after beating Taylor in the rematch, but you can't just take his word for it, how often does stuff like that pan out?
Team Taylor has let it be known that they don't want Winky, and I'm sure they'll hide behind the money excuse, but after Hopkins, what options will Taylor have if he wins? Sturm, no money. Soliman, even less money. Winky, plenty of money--MORE than a Lacy fight (that fight needs time, at least a year or so, it will be huge IF Taylor beats Hopkins and Winky and Lacy beats Reid and Calzaghe).

winky is a good boxer. he deserves his rating. he was on top of the light middleweight division, then moved up and beat a great fighter. alot of pound for pound is based on pure boxing talent, people who are able to move up in weight class and still win, just because they are talentedComment
