Exactly, why you think he wanted a bigger payday? He knows after he loses his stock goes down and won't get much money after that. If that same amount was offered against guys like Dzinuruk or Cotto he takes it, as he feels he has a better shot at those fights.

I can't remember the last time a promoter and manager crucified a fighter for wanting more money. I remember Paul Williams wanted 50/50 cut against Pavlik and I don't remember Dan Goosen or Haymon ****ting all over him for holding out..

Whatever I'm over it, Williams vs Martinez is the fight I want to see anyways.

I dont get why people alway bring up the Williams/Pavlik situation, that was totally different Williams HAD the right to demand 50-50 after been played along twice in the past, He had to pay for training cost, sparring partner etc while Pavlik pulled out so yes he was right to demand 50%.

Angulo here just doesnt want the fight because the styles would have been difficult for him but that doesnt mean he cant win the Martinez fight, Martinez has stamina issues and Angulo could have taken advantage of that in the late round....Poor decision by Angulo.

Williams asked for more money in 2008 bud, he wanted 2.5 million when they only offered him about $1 million. When he didn't get the money he pulled out and Pavlik fought Hopkins.

Edit*** Williams didn't pull out since the fight was never signed but he did ask for more money so the fight didn't come about.

Great points, I think the whole Angulo wanted more money nd Shaw hanging up on him is Shaw trying to help Angulo save face. Truth is another loss and he can kiss them 300k-400k goodbye and Martinez has the tool to be a worse style for Angulo than Cintron.

Shaw is making more money the Angulo PLEASE READ

Ok, I'm not a Angulo fan at all. I don't even think he's an HBO fighter. More like ESPN fighter in my opinion. However, I do understand why he turned down the $750,000. I'm a fighter, and Gary Shaw tried to sign me a few years ago. So I've seen his contracts. One part of his of his contract says If he loss a purse bid or for whatever reason he's not the promoter of the card. Gary Shaw gets 33% of whatever the fighter make of the top. So, let's do the math. Since everyone in the boxing world thinks Angulo idiot. Fighters are called independant contractors. Meaning They have to pay everyone. lol, let's do the math, and you tell me if The dog should take a fight with Martinez, or would you. Put yourself in his shoes.

              Fighter Gross -$750,000- $502,500 - $351,750 - $316,575 - $164,619
              Promoter Percentage 33% - 247,500
              Manager (Guessing) -30% - 150,750
              Trainer - 10% - 35,175
              IRS - 48% - 151,956

*not sure what the manager gets, because I'm not sure of the deal they made, but you have to assume 30% because earlier on in Angulo career the Manager put up a lot of training money among other things in return the manager take 30 percent. Angulo doesn't speak english well. I could go deeper, but I won't.

At the end of the day Angulo only get $164,619... So he decides to wait on Gary Shaw to promote a show so he doesn't have to pay Shaw. Angulo is only trying to make at least 250,000 per fight. That's why he asked for 1 million dollars.... Think about it. The promoter is making more money than the fighter. That doesn't make sense. If it doesn't make dollars. Than it doesn't make cent. Right?

@darkmanX - interesting figures, thanks. I've always figured 10% to the trainer but 30%+ each for the promoter and manager, damn, that's a bug cut of the pie. Are these typical? I'm thinking the manager doesn't deserve THAT much. And I can see why some premium fighters have decided to promote their own fights. Or manage their own business.

promoters & managers take a lot of the share and most fighters have no idea about the biz until the bigger paydays are at hand , its to late there under a contract.

Yeah I've especially heard that Shaw takes a huge piece of the pie, I think Jin Mosley said a long time ago that Corrales died pretty much broke because of Shaw.

I've also heard from other people that Shaw does his fighters dirty.

I've never heard managers take 30% but if that's true damn some fighters are getting straight jacked.

Boxers need a professional union to prevent this type of crap. No way should athletes who don't squander their earnings find themselves in financial jeopardy because their promotional/managerial contracts are abusive.
