ESPN questions Mayweather as Pacquiao takes #1 on its P4P list

ESPN questions Mayweather as Pacquiao takes #1 on its P4P list

"Maybe Mayweather will surprise us all before the July 16 deadline and agree to fight Pacquiao this fall, but after reading the tea leaves, it doesn't look good. If Mayweather declines the fight, what could possibly be a reasonable explanation? Like the man who calls himself "Money" doesn't want to make $40 million?"

All the while he perched Manny Pacquiao atop his most recent pound for pound list. And I agree, unless Mayweather beats someone like Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, how can you compare his two victories over boxers in the twilight of their careers over Pacquiao's recent two-year tear against bigger guys and the sport's best?

But enough of that; to each his own. I wouldn't vilify anybody who thinks Mayweather is the best right now because quite honestly, he is just that darn good too. I just wish he took risks and fought the best opponents possible like Pacquiao did. 41-0 don't mean spit because at the end of the day, there are fighters out there who have perfect records against opponents that were designed for them to beat. If Mayweather's undefeated record is the true basis of greatness, then why isn't anyone saying Jimmy Barry is the greatest boxer of all time?

    Muhammad Ali had 5 losses.

Sugar Ray Robinson had 19 losses.

    Henry Armstrong had 21 losses.

Shoot, Michael Jordan himself lost hundreds of times and was cut from his high school basketball team.

So don't come at me with that ignorant talk about undefeated records. It's all about the trip, not the destination. If you really want to talk boxing, bring some common sense and a lot of research and check your biases out the door. You got to respect Pacquiao for his accomplishments, plain and simple. Nobody has done it like this little guy did in decades- how he moved up in weight and made paper champions out of future hall-of-famers like Dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto on top of sweeping the legends like Barrera, Morales and Marquez in his division. This has nothing to do with me being Filipino and everything to do with thinking. It's refreshing that mainstream guys like Rafael still get it.

So what reasons does Floyd have not to fight Pacquiao?!?!?!? Nothing. From day one it was his for the taking. Instead he made stuff difficult, complicated and borderline impossible to happen. He announced a fight versus Marquez the same day Pacquiao fought Hatton. He came up with the whole drugs and steroids crap on the basis of some A-Side meth urban legend Roger Mayweather alleges that roots to stories about American soldiers' bullets "bouncing off Filipino soldiers' a$$es five hundred years ago". I mean come on.. How gullible, idiotic and ****** can boxing fans really be? Allow me to be the bearer of bad news for Mayweather fans, but if Floyd's history of trash talking and ducking the toughest opponents isn't enough, then all those who buy into all the propaganda and garbage are a bunch of non-thinking zombies. Yeah I said it. It's ******.

At the end of the day, and as the saying goes and I've said time and time again, 'If you want something, there's always a way, and if you don't, there's always an excuse.'

Pacquiao already agreed to the originally proposed drug testing cut-off dates. Now it's about the money? I however think Mayweather is bigger than that. Perhaps he simply wants to see if he can coerce Pacquiao to bend to his will. Well, he did. It's time for Mayweather to take his chips... or is he folding after getting called for his bluff? We'll see

I wonder if this writer has something like this in his archives from earlier this year....you know, when the Fighter of the Decade, Pound 4 Pound king, balked at the fight when Floyd agreed to all his demands. If it's one sided journalism, I can't take it serious. When they get serious about their responsiblity then I'll be back on board. It's odd that there was no media outcry about Margarito being banned for life (especially after I just watched a documentary on Resto being banned when he took the padding out of his gloves) for loading his gloves up. The same ones who lambasted Bonds and called him every name in the book, locking up his boy every week cause he won't talk, etc, are now acting like it's beyond the scope of possibility to ask for stricter doping rules in boxing. There's people riding bikes up a hill in France right now that has used performance enhancers and they want us to shun at the thought of a boxer using them?

The hatred for Floyd is so strong, they rather spend time basking in the thought that Floyd is wrong or scared, than to spend time on the truth here. Let's watch them all cheer for a fight with no drug testing (it'll be outside of the States because Margarito doesn't even have a license). THANKS ARUM! You've won the PR battle.

I dont know man, I love both fighters, unless it doesnt happen then I will lose all respect for both.... but who is Floyd to require testing. Really? Thats like me asking for both of em to take enemas, for no reason. I f there was proof, fine, but the fact Manny has moved up in weight doesnt mean anything, so has Floyd. At the end of the day the fight needs to happen, or boxing will suffer terribly because to the casual fan, the other talent in our sport doesnt mean anything toem, Tim Bradley, Alexander, The Super Six Fighters, Dawson, they are missing out. I f this fight doesnt happen, the regular world will not pay attention to our great sport and that is a shame

It's not a matter of giving him any excuses. If he don't agree to the proposal, oh well. We're fans. Not the boxers. If they don't fight because Pac is afraid of needles, or Floyd can't tell Pac to take a test, or Roger may be locked up, or if Floyd make "x" amount of money the IRS will get "x" amount, or Floyd don't have to let Arum put a deadline on a "proposal", or whatever other reason we hear. I want the fight, but I'm not gonna get irrational about it. The name calling of a fighter doesn't add credance to your post. It only shows that you're a fan of boxers, as opposed to boxing. We had to wait almost 5 years for Hagler vs Leonard for crying out loud. Let it sort itself out.
