"Maybe Mayweather will surprise us all before the July 16 deadline and agree to fight Pacquiao this fall, but after reading the tea leaves, it doesn't look good. If Mayweather declines the fight, what could possibly be a reasonable explanation? Like the man who calls himself "Money" doesn't want to make $40 million?"
All the while he perched Manny Pacquiao atop his most recent pound for pound list. And I agree, unless Mayweather beats someone like Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, how can you compare his two victories over boxers in the twilight of their careers over Pacquiao's recent two-year tear against bigger guys and the sport's best?
But enough of that; to each his own. I wouldn't vilify anybody who thinks Mayweather is the best right now because quite honestly, he is just that darn good too. I just wish he took risks and fought the best opponents possible like Pacquiao did. 41-0 don't mean spit because at the end of the day, there are fighters out there who have perfect records against opponents that were designed for them to beat. If Mayweather's undefeated record is the true basis of greatness, then why isn't anyone saying Jimmy Barry is the greatest boxer of all time?
Muhammad Ali had 5 losses.
Sugar Ray Robinson had 19 losses.
Henry Armstrong had 21 losses.
Shoot, Michael Jordan himself lost hundreds of times and was cut from his high school basketball team.
So don't come at me with that ignorant talk about undefeated records. It's all about the trip, not the destination. If you really want to talk boxing, bring some common sense and a lot of research and check your biases out the door. You got to respect Pacquiao for his accomplishments, plain and simple. Nobody has done it like this little guy did in decades- how he moved up in weight and made paper champions out of future hall-of-famers like Dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto on top of sweeping the legends like Barrera, Morales and Marquez in his division. This has nothing to do with me being Filipino and everything to do with thinking. It's refreshing that mainstream guys like Rafael still get it.
So what reasons does Floyd have not to fight Pacquiao?!?!?!? Nothing. From day one it was his for the taking. Instead he made stuff difficult, complicated and borderline impossible to happen. He announced a fight versus Marquez the same day Pacquiao fought Hatton. He came up with the whole drugs and steroids crap on the basis of some A-Side meth urban legend Roger Mayweather alleges that roots to stories about American soldiers' bullets "bouncing off Filipino soldiers' a$$es five hundred years ago". I mean come on.. How gullible, idiotic and ****** can boxing fans really be? Allow me to be the bearer of bad news for Mayweather fans, but if Floyd's history of trash talking and ducking the toughest opponents isn't enough, then all those who buy into all the propaganda and garbage are a bunch of non-thinking zombies. Yeah I said it. It's ******.
At the end of the day, and as the saying goes and I've said time and time again, 'If you want something, there's always a way, and if you don't, there's always an excuse.'
Pacquiao already agreed to the originally proposed drug testing cut-off dates. Now it's about the money? I however think Mayweather is bigger than that. Perhaps he simply wants to see if he can coerce Pacquiao to bend to his will. Well, he did. It's time for Mayweather to take his chips... or is he folding after getting called for his bluff? We'll see
