For years we've been hearing from all of the Floyd haters that he has ducked and was scared of Antonio Margarito. This article proves that Floyd was willing to face Margarito as long as Arum took care of him in future fights against Cotto, Hatton, and De La Hoya. Arum was not willing to meet Floyds requests.
Here is part of the article:
"ARUM SAID while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million.
Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn’t interested in participating in.
‘That’s not in the cards,’ Arum said. ‘He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It’s not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold’em and when to fold’em.’”
This proves that the main reason that Floyd didn't take the fight and walked away from Arum is because Arum didn't want to make the De La Hoya fight. He says the money wasn't there against Oscar and Hatton, yet Floyd made over $20 million against each of them. The blame is solely on Arum for that fight never happening. I admit Floyd now cherry picks opponents based on money, not fear, but back then he was willing to take this fight no doubt as long as the money was there in the future.
Floyd's decision was extremely smart and this is why Arum hates him so much and the real reason IMO that the Pacquiao fight did not happen.
