This is how brave Roy Jones was....

Hiding behind his HBO contract- which basically allowed him to run rampant in picking up millions of dollars at a time- Jones would fight one undeserving mandatory stiff after another.
But when Tarver had elevated himself to the IBF mandatory position in 2000, he had his promoter at the time Murad Muhammad write a letter questioning his attributes as the number one contender. Eventually, the IBF- which has had an ******uous relationship with Muhammad- acquiesced and forced Tarver into a box-off with Harding for the right to face Jones. Harding would beat Tarver in June of 2000( a loss though, that would be avenged a few years later) and Jones was free from having to face Tarver, until he agreed to face him this past Saturday.

Pitty Roy never saw fit to question the credentials of some of the other stiffs he fought Lol.

Murad Muhammad's wife was the head of the IBF at the time, which obviosly played a role in the request being accepted.

He agreed to fight the winner of the box-off. Whether it was Tarver or Harding. And Harding kicked Tarver's ass...and he fought Harding. In his next bout...immediately after.

tarver was ranked #8, harding was #2(think he was #1 after beating tarver and when he fought jones)

your only complaining because tarver gave roy some rough patches in 03
if jones had fought tarver at that time and only fought harding in 2003

everyone would be whining that jones ducked harding, the number 2 ranked light heavy and instead fought some bum(that's what tarver would be after getting dominated) that could barely make the top 10

Why didnt Jones demand that less deserving fighters like Woods and Frazier have a box off as well?

Beat me to it. And after winning a HW belt Roy killed himself going back down to LHW to face the man who'd been yelling for his hide. Then he rematched him immediately when some people questioned his victory.

Thats noble of him Lol, particularly when you consider Tarver did'nt need to fight Harding.

Harding did not kick his ass, it was a technical Boxing match most of the way, Tarver apparently had one of his ribs broke later in the fight but no way was Harding giving him a hiding, he was outpointing in a boring fight.

Jones had 8 months to lose 14 lbs, he was hardly killing himself. Also the reason he moved down was because the WBA told him to face his mandatory who was Vitali K.
