    Am I the only one who feels bad for Ruiz?

    Here is a guy that was NEVER mean or had anything horrible to say about any other boxer, writer, or fan...he did everything he could with what limited abilities he had...and was still able to become champ twice and beat many top fighters some who fans and writer still praise as being the answer to the HW division (Holyfield, Oquendo, Golata, Rahman, Kirk Johnson etc)...

    The guy was exactly one half of what the HW division needs...a fighter willing to fight anybody...a guy with a lot of heart and determination to win despite limitations...some fighters get hit, realize they have nothing else to win, and just quit...John keeps goings...

    Every has said their piece about John and basically ran him out of his own profession...No one will truly understand until they are actually out there in whatever profession they chose and everyone in the office is saying all sorts of things behind their back everyday of their career where they can see, hear, and read...

    No he was never pleasent to watch, but in a division that needs determined guys who work hard every fight...John Ruiz was that...

    a good HW = talent + determination/heart (will, courage, etc)

    Ruiz = determination/heart

    I expect to see many replies similar to the ones that helped drive this man out of his profession that he loved...but I for one feel bad for the man and hope he does enjoy life and possibly come back...

      This was a very good post. I feel bad for the way the boxing fans treated Ruiz. He had courage to fight anyone anytime and lots of heart and never trash talked. I guess that doesn't fill seats but it gets my respect.

        What you wrote was true about Ruiz. He never harmed anybody. The people of the world expect a heavyweight champion to be a god like figure, a picture of power and grace. Ruiz was neither of these. You have to admitt that his fights could be hard to sit through when your looking for an exciting scrap. But he was a champion, therefore even I should have given him some props. We all can make mistakes or misjudgments, even biased opinions...........Rockin'

          Nothing against Ruiz, but I do not watch boxing see someone with a "pleasant personality" or a overachiever who fights beyond his means. I watch boxing to be entertained. Ruiz does not entertain me, I hope he has a very enjoyable retirement.

            The comments in this thread would bring a tear to the Quiet Man's eyes. You can almost forget the world is full of haters out there.

              In ancient Rome the Caesar and Senate would host gladiator games for half a calendar year as a means to keep the population docile and easily controlled. Boxing today has come to this with King's manipulation. The fans have forgotten boxing. It's just another reality show to them.

                Pretty similar to the way people view the Klitscho's.
                They show alot of determination and (and sometimes) intimidation, which alot of people mistake that for robotic. They rarely trash talk and in fact, they're a class act... People these days rather see an overconfident showboat dancing around grabbing his crotch doing the moonwalk while talking trash and eating outta their ass!....

                Booooo. Booooo to you all!!!!!!
                And that's why I like the klitchkos too but give Vitali negative marks for ducking Ruiz's challenge.

                    If I wanted to see a class act and a gentelman, I'd go to a ****ing Tea Party in England or some ****. I wouldn't go to a Boxing Match.
